Joh Deere: New sprayer nozzles switch on the move

John Deere’s high-specification M900i and R900i series trailed sprayers will be available in 2014 with a new optional in-cab nozzle control system that allows the operator to switch between a choice of two spray nozzles on the move, at the touch of a screen on the tractor’s GreenStar display.
The versatile TwinSelect system has been developed and tested in close partnership with the nozzle’s manufacturer, Pentair Hypro, to meet John Deere’s demanding quality and reliability standards. John Deere is one of the first sprayer manufacturers to offer the system commercially.
The TwinSelect nozzle body is a compactly designed unit comprising a four-way turret on one side plus a second outlet on the opposite side, each with their own pneumatic valves, providing five nozzle options altogether. The operator can easily and quickly switch between two different types or sizes of nozzle to produce different spray characteristics or application rates as required, for both pesticides and fertilisers.
Several minutes can be saved when switching between nozzles on a 36m spray boom, compared to doing it manually, and TwinSelect also utilises the sprayer’s existing pressure recirculation system for ease of use in the field. Full protection of the nozzle body and nozzles is provided by incorporating the system into the boom’s steel structure.
In practice this means an operator can set out for a day’s spraying equipped with a tailor-made selection of spray nozzles and, if required, a liquid fertiliser dribble bar or cap to suit a range of application and crop requirements, all working from a single sprayline. The TwinSelect system saves time in the field as well as during the rinsing operation, compared to using a twin sprayline.
