Superseding the existing flailhead from Spearhead Machinery the all-new MP2 may look similar, but it hides a host of subtle modifications. The result is a significant advance for the professional user looking for a high-quality multi-purpose flailhead.
Visually, aside from the much improved hose routing, the main exterior difference is the full-width, sliding mount that offers maximum adjustment for the flailhead positioning on the arm.
Also, fitted as standard, the rear roller is larger at 15cm diameter, less rotations for a longer life and increased reliability. Hydraulic adjustment for the roller is available as an option. This enables the operator to switch between hedge cutting and verge mowing without leaving the cab.
At the heart of the machine the thickness of the rotor tube has been increased providing even more strength and reliability over previous models. Still using a spiral layout of flails with smooth continuous cutting and fuel saving properties, the MP2 is fitted with new longer, strong cast T-Flails that are excellent for cutting thicker material. A cast C-Flail is also available, more suited as an all round flail for lighter hedge cutting and verge mowing.
The MP2 comes with a choice of drive options, either direct or belt driven. Both options offer reduced ‘dead band’ being tyre friendly, with the belt drive even more so than the direct option. With direct drive the hydraulic motor is mounted on the outside of the flailhead casing, in line with the motor driving via a multi-spline connector.
Belt drive allows the hydraulic motor to be mounted within the flailhead, consequently reducing the overall width. Drive is via a Multi V power band belt with adjustable belt tension, housed in a heavy-duty metal casing.
With a smart black paint finish, the MP2 is available now in both 1.2m and 1.5m cutting widths. It is also available for retrofitting to older Spearhead models.
