Deutz-Fahr: Quick oil test introduced

The Deutz-Fahr Oil Test is a simple way of discovering the state of the oil in a tractor’s engine – a test designed to flag up any kind of engine lubrication problem before it happens.
Tractor engine oil changes are normally determined by the number of hours the tractor has run but working conditions are often extreme and can change from one season to another.
It may be that a tractor engine is left idling for long periods or perhaps switched off and restarted. Both situations can result in the engine not achieving optimum temperatures which will have detrimental impact on the quality of the oil.
The Deutz-Fahr Oil Test provides a clear indication of the level of sludge and unburned fuel present in the engine oil and through use of a reference chart will indicate whether or not the oil needs to be changed.
The Deutz-Fahr Oil Test provided correct readings only for diesel engine oils. Other oil grades will not give reliable results. Deutz-Fahr Oil Test cards and reference charts can be obtained free of charge from Deutz-Fahr dealers.

Taking the test
1. Stop the engine and take a sample of oil using the dipstick. Place one drop of oil in the first circle of the Deutz-Fahr Oil Test card.
2. Place the test card on a flat surface so that the oil drop can spread across the circle. After 30 minutes it should be ready for comparing results with the reference chart.
3. Compare the appearance of the stain formed against the reference chart and see which of the images is most similar in terms of shape and size. Establish in which area it lies – green, red or yellow.

Results
Green: If the stain matches an image in the green area then the oil is in good condition.
Yellow: Not such good news but the oil will need to be changed in the near future.
Red: If the stain matches an image in the red area the oil needs to be changed immediately.
