Fendt: 700 Vario Series unveiled at cereals 2011

The new Fendt Vario 720 offers up to 220hp.

Three completely new 200-240hp tractors in the Fendt 700 Vario Series made their world debut at the Cereals Event on June 15, coinciding with the international launch of the range in Germany on the same day.

Fendt is the UK market leader in the above 200hp sector, with a share of about a third of the market, and these new models are set to further increase the company’s lead in this important and growing sector. A product of the Fendt Efficient Technology philosophy, the compact and powerful Fendt 700 Series offer unrivalled features and versatility that make them ideal for a wide range of applications, including excellent manoeuvrability for loader operations.

“The new Fendt 700 Vario tractors inherit the best qualities of the best-selling Fendt 820 Vario and combine these with the outstanding attributes of the latest Fendt 800 SCR Varios and Fendt 900 SCR Varios,” Fendt’s national sales manager for the UK and Ireland, Richard Shelton, said. “The three new tractors combine exceptional power to weight ratios with cutting-edge technology in every area and set the new standard in the important high power sector.

“These new models, which will eventually replace the current 820, means Fendt now offers seven different models from 200-250hp, which allows buyers to select exactly the right power, technology and specifications for their specific operations.”

Fendt is setting new standards in visibility and comfort with its new four-post, VisioPlus cab. A curved front windscreen, which extends into the front of the roof, provides unparalleled forward vision. With a total of 5.2 square metres of glass and a clear view to both sides, the Fendt 700 Series offers best all-round visibility. Air conditioning is standard, with an option for full climate control.

The Vario 700 Series cab has been equipped to automotive standards.

A new, three-point, pneumatic cab suspension option further improves on the comfort provided by the standard mechanical system. Inside the cab is equipped to automotive standards with a new fully adjustable and telescoping dash unit, which moves with the steering wheel.

The familiar Fendt armrest houses the Vario multi-function joystick control and is equipped with a 10.4-inch Varioterminal screen on ProfiPlus models and a seven-inch screen on the Profi versions. Both terminals are isobus compatible and provide Variotronic control of the headland management system and TMS engine and transmission control system.

On ProfiPlus models the VarioGuide, the Fendt developed, fully automatic steering system option is also controlled through the same terminal as is the new VarioActive steering option. This can be set to turn the front wheels lock-to-lock in less than one revolution of the steering wheel.

The range-topping Fendt Vario 724 features a 240hp Deutz diesel engine.

All models in the Fendt 700 Vario Series are powered by a new 6.06-litre, six-cylinder Deutz engine with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust after treatment. The engines, developed in association with Fendt, use the same SCR system as employed on the Fendt 800 and 900 SCR Ranges.

This system has been proven in independent tests to provide significant reductions in fuel consumption of up to seven per cent compared with previous models. The SCR system makes this possible by treating the exhaust gases after combustion, which means the engine can be set for optimum power and performance with exceptionally low fuel consumption.

Another key feature in the Fendt Efficient Technology package is the renowned Vario TMS transmission, which is standard on all models. The Vario continuously variable transmission is proven to provide an increase output increase of up to 10 per cent compared with powershift gearboxes. The TMS Tractor Management System provides an electronic link between engine and transmission, adjusting the engine rpm and travel speed automatically to ensure the tractor always operates at optimum economy. This not only cuts fuel consumption by 10 per cent, it also eases operation. The top speed of 50km/hr is achieved at just 1,700rpm for fast, quiet and efficient transport work.

Further improving economy is the lightweight, compact design of the Fendt 700 Series. Although all models have an unladen weight of just 7,910kg, the tractors have the strength and integrity to be ballasted for heavier draft operations. This not only improves versatility, but also increases economy because the tractors carry only the weight that is necessary for the task. Ballast is added or removed easily, and existing weights from previous Fendt 820 Vario tractors will fit directly onto the new models.

The three new Vario 700 models offers from 200-240hp.

The new Fendt 700 Series is available in two levels of specifications, Profi and ProfiPlus, to suit the requirements of most UK customers. The Profi spec will be the standard offering for the UK. These can also be upgraded to ProfiPlus specification, which among other features includes the 10.4-inch VarioTerminal screen, VarioGuide auto-steer ready and VarioActive steering.

All are also available with StarService, which is a full manufacturer’s warranty that extends the standard single year to up 6,000 hours or five years to provide complete peace of mind as well as allowing buyers to budget for the precise cost of ownership.
