Class revealed two high horsepower Xerions at Agritechnica 2009. The pre-production Xerion 4500 and 5000 models offer 483hp and 524hp respectively, with maximum torque figures of 2,353Nm and 2,203Nm.
The Xerion, with its four same-sized wheels, has proved reasonably popular for Claas with about 1,000 sold since they were launched in 2005. Approximately 50 are at work in the UK. The existing power levels have fallen behind customer demands however, and new models were needed to allow the company to compete with the 400hp-plus models from other manufacturers.
Classic Xerion features, like the rotating cab that allows forward or reverse drive, remain, but a major new development is the use of a CVT transmission. Supplied by ZF, this brings CVT control to tractors of this size for the first time. With 50km/hr capability in both forward and reverse, this will also be the fastest tractor in this class.
To handle the available power through the PTO, Claas has designed a new 22-spline shaft that’s 57mm in diameter. It will be available as an extra-cost option.

The new Xerions will also have two power systems: a 24-volt system for working lights; starting and potentially for powering implements; and a 12-volt system to run the Cebis computerised control systems.
Weighing in at 13.4t, additional weights can be added to take the new Xerion up to a maximum 24.0t if required.
The new tractors are expected to be available from the third quarter of 2010.
