Dutch company Heberex has introduced an innovative calving aid to help in cases of torsi uteri where the calf and uterus is twisted.
This condition can be a severe threat for the cow and unborn calf. Until now, treatment consisted of turning the calf and uterus by hand, but this is not an easy job as you have to turn the calf as well as the uterus with a powerful swing, knowing that the calf and water together weigh about 50kg.

The newly developed GYN-stick – which consists of a plastic stick, ropes and a metal twisting bar – allows one or two people to turn the uterus to reduce complications during calving. The most common method is for two people to use the GYN-stick, with one turning the calf while the other monitors the process internally.
The system can also be used by one person if necessary.
