Just three years after winning the coveted Tractor of the Year award for best fruit/vineyard tractor, the Landini Rex has repeated the achievement.
In 2007, it was the Rex 85S that took the honours; this time, the Rex 110F from a new and extended range has received the accolade.
The Tractor of the Year 2011 award was judged by a panel of farm machinery journalists working with publications in 20 countries across Europe. In the agricultural engineering industry, it is regarded as one of the most prestigious and closely contested of all the awards a tractor can win.
Practical driving appraisals and an assessment of design features and benefits result in the award being made to the entrant that delivers the best combination of performance and value for money.
The Rex 110F, with its 102hp Perkins four-cylinder engine, is representative of a range of specialist tractors designed and engineered by Argo Tractors and built in a state-of-the-art factory in Italy. The machines are distributed in Britain through a network of sales and service dealers by AgriArgo UK.
There are ultra-narrow vineyard models; the extra-slim S range for work in narrow-row orchards; the F for small orchards and narrow-spaced trees; the GE, which is a little wider but lower; and the GT with a stance that gives it good stability for work in fields and more open orchards.
With new additions being introduced during the next few months, the range will span seven engine outputs from 68-110hp.
In its latest guise, the range also benefits from a number of engineering changes, including a more advanced hydraulic circuit, improved PTO engagement, more accurate regulation of the three-point linkage and a better layout for the controls. The F version also has a tighter-turning front drive axle.
The latest models are easily identified by the restyled hood design, which has larger cooling air grilles and rectangular instead of round front lights. Underneath, though, it is still original Rex with many refinements improving an already successful package.
