Hay producers can now determine the moisture content of the hay they are baling on-the-go with John Deere’s advanced baler-mounted Hay Moisture Tester.
Launched recently in North America, the moisture tester has many features including multi-sensor technology for accurate readings displayed in 0.1 per cent increments; large, illuminated LCD display and keypad for easy viewing day or night; and an operating moisture range of 8 per cent to 30+ per cent, depending on the type of baler used. The unit can be easily installed on John Deere small square and large round balers.
According John Deere Merchandise product manager Phil Lauer the Hay Moisture Tester makes it easier to know when hay has the right moisture level for optimal baling and storage.
“With moisture sensors mounted on the right and left sides of the bale chamber for greater accuracy, the operator can see an updated moisture reading every three seconds, right from the tractor seat,” Mr Lauer said. “The tester takes the guesswork out of determining if the hay is too dry or wet to bale.”
The tester allows the operator to make plus or minus offset adjustments, depending on the type of hay and baling conditions, and to set high and low moisture reading limits. In addition, the unit can easily be recalibrated between bales to ensure accuracy from bale to bale.
“The baler-mounted Hay Moisture Tester is ideal for large and small hay growers and is a small investment to ensure that their hay crop is baled at the right moisture level for their needs,” Mr Lauer added.
This baler-mounted Hay Moisture Tester can also be used on any brand of small square or round baler.
