It’s unlikely to find its way to the European side of the Atlantic Ocean, but New Holland’s MegaCuttermounted triple disc mower-conditioners –the first product to come from the marketing agreement signed between CNH and Kverneland in autumn last year – has been launched in North America.
The new MegaCutter offers big haymaking capacity by cutting a triple-wide swath that nearly doubles the cutting width of a traditional 4.8m self-propelled mower-conditioner or windrower.
The Megacutter is actually a three-machine cutting system. The 3.5mcutting width of the MegaCutter 512 front-mounted disc mower-conditioner combined with the MegaCutter 530 twin rear-mounted disc mower-conditioner allows producers to take down 8.85m with each pass. The V-tine flail conditioning system provides a range of conditioning intensities appropriate for a wide variety of crops from delicate legumes to the most robust grass hays.
“The Megacutter offers maximum efficiency and versatility for largelivestock operations and custom harvesters,” New Holland’s North American dairy & livestock segment marketing manager Mike Cornman said. “Not only can producers cut more hay in less time, they can also take advantage of peak drying conditions during the day.
“Depending on field conditions, when the MegaCutter is matched with the efficiency of a New Holland T7 or T8 Series row crop tractor and the IntelliSteer auto-steering system producers can boost their productivity by mowing up to 43 acres/hour.”
The balanced suspension system used for the MegaCutter 530 twin rear-mounted disc mower-conditioner adapts to changing field contoursindependently of the tractor to maintain an even flotation pressure, ensuring a clean cut and reducing wear. A non-stop safety breakaway mechanism allows each mowing head to swing rearward independently, and lift to clear obstructions to avoid potential damage before automatically resuming the working position.
