Struik: Andrew Deptford takes on UK and Ireland distribution

Potato machinery built by Dutch manufacturer Struik is now being sold by Lincolnshire-based Andrew Deptford, whose AAD Hire business is based at Swaton, Sleaford.
Having used Struik potato ridgers for the past five years, and finding that his hire customers couldn’t break them, Andrew has taken over the UK and Ireland import dealership for the company’s full range of potato equipment. He replaces the previous importer, Deptford Marketing, which was bought by Standen Engineering at the beginning of October 2010.
The Struik range includes hook tine full-width cultivators up to 6.65m wide; pre- and post-planting ridgers for two, four, six or eight 30-, 32-, 34- or 36-inch rows; and haulm toppers are among the machines available with a choice of front or rear mounting.
Three generations of the Struik family have been manufacturing potato machinery in Holland for more than 50 years.  The company prides itself on the quality of the engineering of its equipment. The smallest two row, 30-inch ridger, which only needs 60hp to drive, is built with a 220hp rated gearbox, while 300hp-plus gearboxes are used on larger machines.
Quality bearings and chains are specified throughout, while drive shafts of a larger diameter than on other makes of machines are used with cam clutches in Struik’s drivetrains.  Three types of tine options are available on all machines to cope with all soil types.
Andrew Deptford, who has has been in the machinery hire business for more than 25 years, isn’t new to importing and selling agricultural equipment as he previously offered Franzino precision onion planters in the UK. He intends selling the Struik range direct to end users.
