Direct strip seeding technology specialist Claydon Yield-o-Meter has appointed Turney Group to sell and support the full range of Claydon Opti-Till products in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and South Northamptonshire.
Established by farmer and agricultural contractor Peter Turney in 1948, PA Turney rebranded to Turney Group in 2005 to reflect its growing portfolio and now comprises three divisions: Turney Agriculture, Turney Groundscare and Turney Garden Machinery. A main dealer for leading agricultural, horticultural and arboricultural franchises, it operates three depots at Middleton Stoney and Weston-on-the-Green in Oxfordshire, and Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire. A New Holland main dealer since 1961, Turney Group has added the Claydon franchise to further extend the range of products available to its customers.
Turney Agriculture’s group operations manager, Daniel Coates, said recent sharp rises in input prices were making farmers think long and hard about how to make cost savings and the equipment which they use.
“One of the ways to cut production costs is by reducing cultivations, which the Government is also encouraging to minimise the release of carbon from the soil into the atmosphere,” he added. “The key is to do so without compromising yields and the Claydon Opti-Till System provides the ideal solution.
“Adding Claydon to our portfolio is a positive development because we’re now able to offer our customers a tine-type drill from a very well-respected British manufacturer. The 3.0m and 4.0m Claydon mounted drills are likely to be the most popular with the small- and medium-size farms that characterise our trading area, so we have chosen a 3.0m model for our demonstration fleet.
“In addition to selling the full range of new Claydon machinery we also provide service and spare parts support to existing Claydon customers in our trading area who purchased new or pre-owned equipment direct from the company before it established a dealer network.”
Designed by farmers for farmers, Claydon products are manufactured to an exceptionally high standard at the company’s factory in Suffolk. At the heart of the Opti-Till System, the Claydon drill incorporates a unique leading tine technology which delivers exceptional versatility in all climatic conditions, soil types and crops. Its simple, robust design and great flexibility allows any crop that can be air sown to be established in any soils. It will handle autumn or spring sowing and cope with wet or dry conditions, can be specified with a split hopper design to enable fertiliser to be applied at drilling, while also being accurate, dependable, and inexpensive to operate.
In addition to a comprehensive range of tractor-mounted and trailed drills from 3.0m to 8.0m wide, the Claydon product line includes Straw Harrows from 3.0m to 15m, the 6.0m TerraStar light rotary cultivator and Cambridge rolls up to 12.3m wide. The TerraBlade inter-row hoe in widths from 3.0m to 8.0m helps growers to control weeds in band-sown crops more efficiently and more effectively than chemicals alone, with significant cost and environmental benefits.
