Valtra launches flagship S394 model

Valtra is expanding its fourth generation S Series range upwards with the launch of the new S394. Producing 405hp and 1,600Nm, the new flagship model not only offers more power, but also comes with a completely revised user interface inside the spacious, pneumatically suspended cab.

Designed and engineered in Finland, in keeping with Valtra’s heritage, the new multifunction Valtra SmartTouch armrest takes operator comfort and control to a new level. Valtra SmartTouch, which will be available on all models of the fourth generation S Series, allows for complete customisation of function buttons and user profiles, making the S Series perfectly suited for individual farm owners and contractors, as well as for fleet owners with changing operators.

The new S394 is powered by the Agco Power 84 AWF engine with the dynamic boost feature and more practical power for all kinds of work. The service costs of this SCR-only engine are now even further reduced thanks to a new hydraulic lash adjuster. New engine power management further enhances the reliable performance for which Agco Power engines are renowned. The Valtra S Series was the first tractor model to introduce the SCR emission control system in 2008, and the fourth generation tractor offers the latest version of the fuel-efficient SCR system.

Power is transmitted to the ground through the reliable stepless AVT transmission. The operator can select from automatic pedal or lever driving modes to optimise fuel efficiency, work output and driving comfort. A manual transmission control mode is also available. The integrated linkages have a capacity of 12,000kg at the rear and 5,000kg at the front. The hydraulics produce up to 205 lit/min through a maximum of six valves at the rear and three at the front.

Valtra is renowned for offering productivity when working in both directions. The TwinTrac reverse-drive system increases work efficiency in a wide range of tasks, such as mowing, crushing and chipping. Working in reverse can save up to 10 per cent in fuel and time thanks to increased implement visibility, more powerful rear linkage output, enhanced agility and a better work position for the driver.

SmartTouch user interface
Valtra SmartTouch integrates the ergonomic armrest with a multifunction drive-lever, valve switches, rear-linkage and PTO control, a touch screen terminal and push button control pad, bringing all tractor functions within easy reach of the operator.

The drive-lever with programmable function buttons allows the driver to operate the machine without lifting his/her hand. The lever has been positioned vertically on the armrest to allow for a natural hand position when commanding the drive speed by pushing or pulling the lever. The design allows the operator to rest his/her thumb while not operating the rocker switches, and the soft rubber material prevents the hand from slipping away from the lever while driving in rugged terrain. The whole lever moves both sideways and forward and back like a computer mouse.

The nine-inch touch screen terminal has been designed to allow easy customisation of the tractor controls and access advanced features such as various counters, the U-Pilot headland management, Auto-Guide and other precision farming options. The terminal is easier and more intuitive to use than a modern smartphone: an interactive picture of the tractor helps locate and access all functions easily in less than three taps or swipes of the screen.

Valtra SmartTouch allows the operator or fleet owner to set up an unlimited amount of user or implement profiles, if needed. The displays for the optional Auto-Guide automated steering, ISObus implement control and safety camera are fully integrated, eliminating the need for additional monitors and thus improving visibility from the cab.

Serial production of the new S Series models, including the S394, will be ramped up this summer. The new models will be on display at exhibitions and available for test drives from September 2017.
