Abbey Machinery’s new plant officially opened

Abbey Machinery officially opened its new purpose-built manufacturing facility at Toomevara, County Tipperary, on May 3, 2016.

EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan, officially opened the plant at a ceremony that also brought together Abbey Machinery’s network of dealers from around the world.

Mary Cavanagh, who in 1947 co-founded the company with her husband Joe, was a special guest at the opening and cut the ribbon to open the new facility. She was accompanied by four generations of the Cavanagh family, who still own the business.

Abbey Machinery also opened the doors to the new plant to the local public to view the facility, with more than 2,000 people taking the opportunity to look round .

“We were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and the interest we received on the public day, and couldn’t believe the queues that gathered to participate in the factory tours as we only advertised locally, the turnout was incredible,” Abbey Machinery’s managing director Clodagh Cavanagh said.
