Drill and cultivation equipment company Sumo has announced four new appointments as the business continues to grow and strengthen its UK and worldwide operations.
Robbie Polson joins the team as southern area technical sales manager. He’ll be working closely with distributors, introducing new products and changes to both drills and cultivators, planning stocking and taking orders.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity,” he said. “The Sumo range is second-to-none, and I’m really looking forward to introducing the products to new customers.”
The next appointment sees Will Wainwright leave the design office at Sumo’s Melbourne base, where he’s spent the past six years working on drill design, to become the company’s drill specialist. He’ll be managing demos, talking to potential customers, attending open days and sorting out any issues customers may have with getting the maximum benefit from their machines.
Rob Atkins, now Mid-counties area technical sales manager, has spent the past three years with Sumo and said he’s looking forward to the opportunity to pass on the knowledge he’s learnt through demonstrating the drill and cultivation equipment. A farmers’ son, he said he loves having the opportunity to try new ideas, and the ability to give advice and support to customers through the company’s excellent after sales support.
Then, Christian Townend moves on from his role as the last set of eyes on the assembly line – checking all equipment before it leaves the factory and starts on its journey to the dealership – to become Northern area technical sales manager. He’s covering an area from north of the Humber bridge to the tip of Northern Scotland, and is relishing the challenge his new role offers.
He’s been a member of the Sumo team for the past three years, and said he’s loving the new opportunity.
“Sumo has a great reputation for build quality and support, and I’m enjoying the fact that every one of my days is so different,” he said. “I’m a trouble shooter, salesman, organiser of events and demos, I give talks, support dealers and meet potential customers.”
The final member of the new team is well-known across the industry. Karen Wealleans has worked at Sumo for about 15 years, and the company was started by her husband Shaun. She takes on the role of sales co-ordinator, providing central, office-based support for the sales team, for order taking and liaises with production to make sure order dates are achieved.
“This gives us a very strong and stable team,” managing director Simon Herring said. “The business is going from strength to strength, and we’ve some exciting new developments in the pipeline.
“I’d urge farmers to come and see us at the Cereals Event in June to see how our equipment can help them to farm more efficiently into the future.”
