Bobcat dealer MTS Group has invested in a hire fleet of highly specialised forestry attachments. The equipment, which includes Bobcat wood chippers, flail cutters, tree transplanters and a mulching head, can be hired from any of the company’s depots in the North-east, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Lanarkshire, and has already proved popular with forestry and arboriculture contractors.
The attachments are some of the most specialist on the market, and due to their complexity – as well as the large investment required – are not available from many plant hire providers. However, as an official Bobcat dealer, MTS has the confidence and the knowledge required to run these pieces of machinery in its range, and to instruct customers how to operate the equipment safely and to its full potential.
An added benefit is the quick and easy interchangeability of the attachments, which allows customers to benefit by just hiring the one Bobcat loader, but being able to quickly swap between the stump grinder and the mulching head or any other attachment on site.
Each of the attachments provides many benefits when working in the forestry industry, and all are capable of turning weeks of hard manual work into just a few hours of machine operation. The mulching head (pictured top), in particular, is capable of clearing large swathes of thick overgrowth in just hours, which otherwise would take a team days to clear by hand. The attachment will fit skidsteer loaders up to 90hp, and is ideal for clearing ground for woodland paths or trails, preparation for utility installation, preparing sites for new builds and many other applications.
Unlike conventional, towable woodchippers, the Bobcat woodchipper can reach limited access areas such as back yards, or areas of rough terrain. The Bobcat chipper features dual mounting locations that enables the operator to choose if they want to load wood from the right side or the front of the skidsteer or tracked loader. The Bobcat wood chipper is capable of operating with the skidsteer loader S530 and larger, or tracked loaders T590 and larger.
The Bobcat stump grinder can quickly and efficiently remove entire tree stumps using this attachment that’s available for both Bobcat tracked and skidsteer Loaders. Tree stumps can be milled up to 28cm above ground level, right down to 28cm below the surface. The Stump Grinder also provides a high degree of safety as the rubber shields deflect wood chips away from the driver.
The Bobcat tree transplanter, or tree spade attachment allows the easy harvesting of trees and transplant them to a new location. The blades of the Tree Spade proved an extremely clean cut due to their overlapping nature. Closely planted trees are also not a problem due to the short tower design that allows the attachment to easily fit inbetween trees and other obstacles and also maintain excellent viability.
