Poundfield Products: New freestanding walling chosen by Lincolnshire farm

A major Lincolnshire farming company has purchased 29 sections of Poundfield Product’s recently introduced Taperbloc XL freestanding concrete retaining wall system.

Patrick Dean, based near Lincoln and farming 1,800ha, grows a mixture of combinable crops as well as sugar beet, potatoes and poppies. In addition, the company has about 7,500 pigs and it was the decision to mill and mix its own pig rations that led to the search for a suitable method of separately storing the soya and barley ingredients.

Patrick Dean’s managing director, Alastair Priestley, spotted the Taperbloc XL system on Poundfield’s stand at Cereals 2015 event and was immediately attracted by its ability to be quickly installed without the need to bolt the individual sections to the ground.

“I had visited several stands at the show,” Mr Priestley said, “but only Poundfield offered a free-standing system ideal for our application and offering the flexibility to be reconfigured at a later date if necessary.”

The 2.4m tall by 1,220mm wide pre-cast wall sections chosen by Patrick Dean have been used to create the two required storage bays inside the company’s grain handling facility, made easy by cast-in-situ pallet fork pockets in the base of each section.

Also, in order to provide a continuous and leak-free wall, Poundfield supplies easy to install steel corner sections.
