Dutch manufacturer Hanskamp will launch a unique new concept in feedstations at EuroTier 2014 at Hanover from November 11-14.
The company’s new walk-through FeedStation allows cows to simply and safely walk in at the back and go out through the front. This means that not only can the cow protect herself with her head, but both feet and legs are less stressed. An added benefit is that a lower rank cow feels safe and comes forward to eat.
This latest innovation works by ensuring both front and rear gates move upwards once a cow is ready to leave the FeedStation. The back gate goes up slower thus ensuring the cow can leave the FeedStation safely by the front.
The walk-through design allows the cow to leave by a straight exit with no hinges or other obstacles on the inside. The open character of the FeedStation ensures each cow keeps in contact with the herd. So teaching new arrivals to use the feedstation is no longer necessary as cows can see how it works.
Thanks to the two L’port closing gates mounted on the FeedStation, as soon as a cow walks in both gates close safely and are securely at an adjustable speed. The ergonomic design of the unit means the cow has all the space needed to eat her feed safely. Up to two Hanskamp PipeFeeders can be fitted to reduce dust and noise.
A key feature of the PipeFeeder is an ingenious anti-spill system that ensures that once the desired amount of feed has been released, no further concentrate falls into the trough, thus discouraging cows from banging against the FeedStation.
