Amazone: New Cayena tine coulter seed drill

The new Cayena tine seeder drill from Amazone is designed for rapid sowing with or without prior soil tillage. It displays its strengths particularly on hard and stony ground and in dry regions where conventional coulters fail.
Whether it is used for coarse, medium or fine seed, for mulch sowing, after the plough or in stubble, the Cayena does an impressive job with its 6m working width. With working speeds of up to 15km/hr and a 3,600 litre seed tank, the Cayena offers a high potential for maximum daily outputs.
The Cayena has 36 tine coulters at 16.6cm row spacing, in a staggered three-row arrangement on the main frame – the Cayena’s coulters allow a good through-flow of plant remains and stones, despite their close spacing. Special rubber sprung mountings optimise the adaptation of the coulters to the ground contours, even on hard ground. They also provide an overload safety function.
Thanks to their extremely narrow design, the Cayena’s carbide-plated coulters easily penetrate the ground and move only minimal amounts of soil, which reduces moisture loss during sowing. The narrow shape of the coulters has other decisive benefits; the power required to pull the Cayena is low and wear on the coulters is reduced to a minimum. In spite of the large working width of 6m, the Cayena only needs a tractor of 140hp.
The TineTeC coulters on the Cayena are arranged on-grip and pull themselves into the soil, and because the machine is supported by the lower links of the tractor and the wedge ring roller at the back, the insertion depth of the tines is limited. This means that a precise placement seeding depth can be ensured – continuously and regardless of the fill level of the seed tank. The twin adjustable turnbuckles, one each side; allow the placement depth to be adjusted centrally, rapidly and reliably.
Following the exact harrow is the Amazone wedge ring roller, which consists of 12 tyre elements with a diameter of 800mm. The large diameter wedge ring roller ensures good, smooth running and also acts as an integrated chassis. Thanks to a special profile shape, the wedge ring roller consolidates the seedbed in strips, exactly over the seed. This allows for optimum crop emergence even in dry conditions. Loose stones are also pushed into the ground. A separate process to roll the soil after sowing is no longer necessary. Scrapers on the roller ensure that it does not become obstructed or clogged in damp conditions.
Thanks to its lower link attachment, integrated running gear and hydraulically folding tool carriers, the new Cayena is an impressively compact and manoeuvrable unit. It is only 6.85m long and has a transport width of just 2.9m. These compact dimensions are a significant benefit on difficult terrain and when it is being transported.
At 3,600 litres, the seed tank on the Cayena is large, but still compact. This allows a clear view of the TineTeC coulters during use with the driver always having everything under supervision. The large opening on the tank enables easy and rapid filling. Because the seed tank is fitted well forward on the front of the Cayena, a large part of the machine’s weight rests on the rear axle of the tractor. This improves traction enormously.
The well-established full electrical metering system allows the seed rate to be precisely set. The sowing rate is simply set on the operator control terminal, the machine calibrated and the determined weight entered in the terminal. The seed rate and the forward speed – determined using radar pulses – determine the rotation speed of the metering roller. There are exchangeable metering cassettes for coarse, medium or fine seeds, which allow adjustments to be made to the various types of seed and sowing rates, and therefore an absolutely even metering and gentle handling of the seed. All metering cassettes can be replaced regardless of the fill level of the seed tank.
