Amazone: EDX drill is now available with 6m working width

With the new Xpress grain singling and placement system, Amazone has started a revolution in single grain sowing technology. Fitted in the new EDX series, the Xpress singling system enables work rates that are up to 50% greater than with conventional precision air planters without reducing the placement quality.
At Agritechnica 2009, Amazone will present the new EDX 6000-T with eight rows and 6m working width.
The crucial Xpress innovation is the modular separation of grain singling and grain placement. The precision pneumatic singling of the grains is performed for eight rows by a centrally arranged singling drum. After the singling process, the grains are “shot” by excess pressure through the chute channel into the sowing coulters. There, a plastic catcher roller intercepts the grain gently and without any risk of damage to the seed and firmly presses it into the furrow.
The placement coulter and roller form the Xpress catcher system. Because the cross-section of the furrow is no longer V-shaped but rectangular, the catcher roller also fits positively into the furrow and ends at the edge of the furrow and thus ensures optimum placement quality even in the most varied of soil conditions.
A number of other features prove that the entire design of the EDX has been geared towards use on large farms and by contractors under a variety of conditions; after the plough, mulch or direct sowing, without compromise. For example, the sowing coulter can be loaded to 200kg, the diameter of the disc coulter is 400mm and the diameter of the carrier rollers is 500mm.
Considerably shorter filling and setup times – and therefore a further increase in efficiency – are the result of the fact that only one central hopper with a nominal volume of 550 litres needs to be filled on the EDX, despite its 6m working width. The fertiliser is conveyed from another large tank (3,000 litres) by a fully electric metering drive to the fertiliser coulters, the height of which can be centrally adjusted. A filling auger is available as an option for quick and easy filling.
The seed quantity is set and regulated via the Amatron on-board computer, which controls the electrically driven singling drum – a high quality, simple design and therefore very reliable driveline.
For 2010, maize and sunflowers can be sown in rows spaced at 70cm, 75cm and 80cm with the EDX 6000-T.
