Danish fertiliser spreader manufacturers Bogballe A/S and Bredal A/S are to merge. Investment company Erhvervsinvest, which has owned Bogballe since 2017, has reached an agreement with the owners of Bredal to bring the two companies under the same management.

Bogballe sells its mounted mineral fertiliser spreaders – with working widths of up to 42m and hopper capacities of up to 5,500 litres – in more than 45 countries, while Bredal is focused on the development and manufacturing of high-capacity trailed mineral fertiliser and lime spreaders – with working widths of up to 36m and capacities of up to 19,000 litres – that sell in 25 countries via a global distribution network.

Bogballe and Bredal employ 109 employees split between three factories – 64 employees at Bogballe’s factory located at Bøgballe, Denmark, and 45 employees at Bredal’s current two factories about 20km away at Vejle.

“Both Bogballe and Bredal are high-quality companies with skilled employees, and both have strong global brands within precision farming,” the managing partner and director of Erhvervsinvest, Thomas Marstrand, said. “The combination of mounted and trailed mineral fertiliser spreaders is a good match. The market for precision farming products is a market with solid underlying growth.

“The companies develop products that help increase farmers’ efficiency globally and have both realised high growth in recent years. This is partly due to a shift towards more digitised products as the need for more precise distribution of fertiliser grows.”

The former CEO of Bredal, Anders Bull Jensen, and former COO, Torben Sørensen, have owned the business since they took over from their fathers more than 30 years ago. Following the merger, they will retain almost 10 per cent of the new business and continue to work at Bredal.
