Aldo Doda: Revolutionary new pump set to sieze umbilical market

Italian pump manufacturer Aldo Doda is bringing a new high-pressure umbilical pump to the UK and Irish markets via its distributor SlurryKat.

Doda is one of the original manufacturers of pumps for umbilical systems first seen in the UK market back in the 1970s. The units are renowned for their unrivalled flow rates, high pressure and efficient performance.

In 2007, Doda introduced the ground-breaking AFI 35HD that offered previously unseen performance, boasting pressures of up to 16 bar at outputs of 300 cubic metres/hour or more. This HD model has been hugely popular in the UK and Ireland, with more than 6,000 units sold to date.

There is now a new 2020 version of the HD35 that carries all the best features of the current model with a welcome range of additions. The main advance is a completely new shaft and chopping system that further strengthens the unit against foreign objects. The new shaft design, on which the rotating AFI blade is fitted, is now 60 per cent larger, while the blade itself is no longer screwed onto the shaft, but instead is mounted via an splined shaft and retained with a high-tensile nut. This technological advance means that the rotating blade is very easy removed for service.

Other advances include a 50 per cent thicker pump body casting, giving much longer wear life. The new pump range is also available with a new optional Dura-Line system on the main wear components including the pump body, impeller and the pressure plate. These components are manufactured from a unique wear-resistant metal – tailored to intensive users who pump sandy slurry – that increases pump life. Because the whole pump body is made from this special wear-resistant material, pump performance is maintained for the entire life of the unit.

The working pressure on the new pump has been increased by 1.5 bar, and flow rates increased by more than 20 per cent to more than 400 cubic metres/hour. Standard features from the old design, like the reliable gearbox and cooling system, have been retained and also improved.
