German pig equipment manufacturer Meier-Brakenberg has followed up its 2o16 EuroTier gold medal for innovation for its Piggy Check weighing system by taking the same award with another ingenious product.
The new Speedy Trough Cleaner has been designed to assure the best feed hygiene, by making it easy to remove feed residues and stray manure from troughs. These are currently difficult to clean, and can easily become a breeding ground for mould and bacteria.
The cleaner allows feed troughs to be washed quickly, thoroughly and conveniently. It’s coupled to the gun of a pressure cleaner for use, and can then both clean feed troughs, and remove liquid and solid food residues.
The handle on the new product doubles as a valve that swaps the water flow from the cleaning lance to a clever system that produces a sucking action to empty the feed troughs. In sucking mode, the high-pressure water is forced out of draining pipe through a venturi, creating as sucking force that draws material out of the trough and on to the floor, where it can fall through the slats.
The Speedy Trough Cleaner is likely to revolutionise trough cleaning on pig units, and the improved hygiene should provide a range of benefits including better feed intake and performance.
The new product will be sold at 249 euros, plus any taxes and carriage charges.
