Krone: World’s most powerful forage harvester revealed

Krone has unveiled the BiG X 1180, the company’s new flagship that underlines its reputation as a manufacturer of high-capacity forage harvesters. The new model’s 24-litre, 12-cylinder Liebherr engine is Stage IV compliant and offers 1,165hp; other benefits include an oil, filter and valve service interval that’s been extended to 1,000 hours.

The higher engine power and throughput of the BiG X 1180 meas it has been fitted with the new, larger-diameter OptiMaxx 305 conditioning rollers. These are 305mm in diameter and have teeth slanted at an angle that create a unique shearing effect, increase the friction surface area and the circumferential speed. As such, the OptiMaxx 305 roller conditioner stands out for an exemplary crop intake and intensive treatment – even in long chops.

The greater conditioner diameter means the rollers have more teeth. Depending on appliation, buyers can choose between 125/150 teeth cominations for medium and long chopping lengths, and 150/175 teeth for short and medium chopping lengths. The special rollers rotate at a 30 per cent speed differential as standard, with a 40 or 50 per cent differential available as an option.

With 1,156hp, the Krone BiG X 1180 is the world’s largest forager.

Camera-based 3D image analysis is at the heart of the new Krone EasyLoad filling system on the Big X 1180, which offers convenient filling of trailers that run alongside the harvester. The system controls the spout automatically (open/close spout flap; rotate spout right/left) and allows operators to select various filling strategies such as “front to rear”. They can also program specific filling levels, and the impact point of the crop stream in the wagon.

A new, optional AgriNIR online sensor is also now available that supplies accurate data on the crop’s moisture and nutrient levels. The sensor is manufactured by Dynamica Generale, a long-standing manufacturer with extensive experience in this field. It supplies data including: dry matter, starch, crude protein, crude ash, crude fat, ADF acid detergent fibres and NDF neutral detergent fibres.
