All new Magna grain dryers from 2017 onwards will have even better longevity thanks to modifications made to components in corrosion-susceptible areas that are now made of galvanised steel or stainless steel. Despite a small price increase, with working life extended by several years the dryers will have a lower cost of ownership and a higher resale value due to less corrosion.
The Magna dryer modifications come following more than 12 months of collaboration between Opico and the manufacturer of these diesel-fired recirculating batch dryers.
“Areas such as the plenum and main bin frame are exposed to a lot of moisture and steam during the drying process, so now the whole upper bin and plenum are made of stainless steel or galvanised steel, to protect them against corrosion,” Opico’s James Woolway said. “The bottom well, loading hopper and intake auger tube have also been galvanised completely.
“This has increased the build cost of the dryers slightly, but the long-term benefit of these upgraded components will be to extend the life of the whole dryer by a number of years. Ultimately this reduces the cost of ownership and cost per tonne of drying.”
All Magna grain dryers supplied for the 2017 season will come with the stainless steel and galvanised components. the dryers are available with holding capacities of between 12t and 48t, and can be powered by PTO or electricity. Prices start from £33,679 for the 12t Eco dryer, while the most popular size, the 2910 with a 29t holding capacity, costs from £62,308 (correct at October 2016).
