Suzuki: Datatag security sharply reduces ATV theft

Since deciding to fit Datatag security technologies to its range of utility ATVs as standard, Suzuki and its customers have seen a dramatic change in fortune. With nearly 500 ATVs having been delivered to customers across the UK from Suzuki’s dealer network, only three have been reported stolen! A theft rate of about 0.5 per cent.  Given that ATVs have featured in the top three of the NFU’s Annual Rural Crime Survey for as long as anyone can remember this figure is remarkable.

“We chose the CESAR Compact System for our range of ATVs as it has had such a dramatic effect on reducing theft of larger agricultural machinery – we’re really pleased that this success has been replicated with the ATV sector,” Suzuki’s George Cheeseman said. “Deciding to fit it as standard was an easy decision, and hopefully proves to our customers our dedication to providing them with the absolute best ATV package available on the market.”

The Datatag technologies fitted to Suzuki ATVs include RFID transponders, tamper evident warning labels and Datadots with a forensic DNA trace. Combined, these provide an almost impenetrable barrier for thieves who like to steal items that can be easily de-identified and sold on. Ensuring identification can be easily determined provides a huge deterrent to theft and allows the police to quickly prove ownership via Datatag’s 24/7 secure UK based contact centre.

Suzuki has been quick to adopt Datatag as its preferred security marking partner in the ATV market, and also for its range of outboard motors and motorcycles, providing an extra benefit to their customers across all product ranges.

This customer reassurance has been well received by Suzuki’s dealer network, which sees the result of rural crime all too often, and works hard to get farmers back on track as quickly as possible.

“The Datatag system is a great selling point for Suzuki ATVs,” Suzuki dealership H Pigney & Son said. “Not only is it the number one theft deterrent for our customer’s machines, but they can also benefit from significant insurance savings with NFU Mutual and NIG Farmweb.”

The cost of rural crime extends well past the loss of assets – time lost in a working week and the knock on effect on crops and/or animal welfare often costs many times more than the insured loss.  Suzuki’s efforts with Datatag to protect its customers from these losses is a clear indication that Suzuki is taking the issue seriously and tackling it head on.
