Significant new features and improvements give two of JCB’s compact Loadall telescopic handlers a real lift in terms of performance and ease of use.
The 526-56 Agri has a four-speed powershift transmission as standard, with selectable two-/four-wheel drive, while the hydrostatic drive 527-58 Agri is now equipped with the Varispeed transmission as standard, allowing the operator to control ground speed separate from engine revs.
Both handlers are powered by an 109hp version of the award-winning JCB EcoMax 4.4-litre engine, giving them plenty of power and torque to deliver a highly productive performance.
Improvements common to both machines include refinements to the boom hydraulics, a new Bucket Control System and an LED worklight package to illuminate the machines’ surroundings when working early mornings and late evenings.
JCB 526-56 Agri Plus
The most compact mechanical drive Loadall in the JCB telehandler range stands just 2.4m to the top of its cab and is only 2.2m wide over the tyres. Yet the 526-56 Agri Plus can lift its full 2,600kg lift capacity to 5.6m, which makes it a productive handler for locations where size and nimble manoeuvrability are essential.
The previous Agri version had a manual gear box and permanent four-wheel drive but now it has a higher specification JCB driveline providing four-speed powershift, selectable two-/four-wheel drive and, where local legislation permits, faster travel speeds.
Powershift makes it quicker and easier for the operator to select the best speed for different applications, while the new joystick-mounted switch makes it simpler to shuttle between forward and reverse, while braking system refinements improve pedal ‘feel’.
Disconnecting four-wheel drive for road travel reduces tyre wear and increased top speeds – a choice of 33km/hr or 40km/hr – means the 526-56 Agri Plus takes less time getting to and from jobs beyond the farmyard.
In work, the new transmission disconnect feature operated by the brake pedal makes it easy to balance driving force and hydraulic power for the best breakout and lift performance – ideal for getting a fork full of manure when cleaning the cow shed.
JCB 527-58 Agri Plus
Using a hydrostatic transmission has enabled JCB engineers to produce an ultra-compact Loadall with unique power density for its size.
The 527-58 is just 2.04m wide over the tyres and stands 2m to the top of its spacious cab. It can therefore enter confined buildings with ease and put its 2,700kg lift capacity and 5.8m lift height to productive use both indoors and outside.
On the latest version, detailed refinements to the two-speed hydrostatic transmission result in improved driveability, while the Varispeed control can be used by the operator to set a travel speed that is not dependent on engine speed.
This is a really useful feature for attachments needing generous oil flow to a hydraulic motor – such as a sand, sawdust and chopped straw dispenser – because it enables the handler to proceed at a slow, consistent speed alongside cubicles for bedding down livestock, while engine revs are kept up to deliver the required oil flow.
Common features
New and improved features common to the 526-56 Agri Plus and 527-58 Agri Plus include a more refined hydraulics system, resulting in a more comfortable and more enjoyable experience at the controls.
End-of-stroke damping for the boom retraction cylinder has the added benefit of minimising spillages while the single lever servo joystick delivers sharper, more positive responses in proportion to control inputs. Both result in total control and precise, confident loading and placement.
Adding JCB’s unique Bucket Control System to these two compact handlers makes it easier to shake a bucket or fork without the operator having to make repeated joystick movements. This is a really helpful feature for getting sticky materials off a grab, progressively dropping grass or maize from a fork or emptying a grain bucket with precision.
And when it is safe to change attachments while the engine is running, the new auxiliary venting valve for the auxiliary hydraulics – operated by a button under the cab step – saves time during a busy work schedule.
