Horsch: New Avatar seed drill features single-disc coulter

The Avatar SD from Horsch represents the company’s entry into the direct seeding sector with a drill featuring discs. Previously, only tine seed drills had been available.

The Avatar SD is being launched in 4m, 6m and 12m working widths, and due to its high tare weight the new single-disc coulter is ideal for direct seeding. The coulter pressure of 200kg guarantees a safe penetration into the soil. The strong coulter frame eliminates sideways movement which guarantees that the coulter keeps to the set sowing depth even on uneven terrain. A press wheel then closes the seed furrow and consolidates the seed row.

The Avatar SD features single-disc coulters that each apply up to 200kg of pressure.

The Avatar SD in 4m working width weighs 5,800kg, in 6m 9,300kg and in 12m working width 19,160kg. Despite the high weight, which is necessary for a direct seed drill, the horsepower requirement of the Avatar SD is low as the single-disc coulters are arranged in two bars.

With regard to hopper and metering, Horsch relies on the well-proven components of the Pronto DC seed drills. The hopper size is 1,500 litres for the 4m wide machine, 3,500 litres for the 6m version and 12,000 litres for the 12m wide drill.

Horsch has benefited from the experience of producing the Pronto drill and has transferred this to a modern direct seed drill. Thus, depth control of the coulters is carried out via the well-proven rubber suspension of the Pronto in a larger and stronger version that’s required due to the high coulter pressure. The row spacing is 16.7cm (6m) and 20cm (4.0m and 12m version). Control and monitoring of the machine is carried out via a standard Isobus terminal.
