Mitas’ revolutionary tyre concept PneuTrac – first seen at AgriTechnica in 2013 – has received the Technical Innovation Award at Bologna’s EIMA Show in Italy.
The jury awarded Mitas PneuTrac as the best innovation in the Component or Accessory category based on the detailed technical description and practical demonstration of this unique concept.
PneuTrac brings together the best of both worlds in traditional pneumatic tyres and rubber tracks. Mitas is intensively testing the PneuTrac concept on an 18-inch rim, started dynamic testing on a larger 38-inch rim tyre and is planning to test a new size.
Mitas PneuTrac will be one of the most coveted innovations of the EIMA fair in Bologna. Mitas will display PneuTrac mounted on a 38-inch rim in the Four-Sides Arch area at the entrance to the show.
“PneuTrac has raised huge interest among farmers and machinery manufacturers,” Mitas’ marketing and sales director, Andrew Mabin, said. “The EIMA Technical Innovation award strengthens our determination to bring the concept into commercial production to meet the expectations of all stakeholders.
“We’re glad that the jury recognised the potential and innovative essence of Mitas PneuTrac. Such innovation is unique in the tyre industry, and Mitas has proved its leadership in the agricultural tyre business.”
Based on the recent significant improvement of the test results of Mitas 280/70R18 PneuTrac, Mitas has started dynamic tests of the larger 600/65 R38 PneuTrac concept. Until now, the larger 38-inch rim PneuTrac had undergone static testing only. Mitas is also planning to start development of the new dimension to offer a wider selection of sizes once PneuTrac is successfully released. The release for sale is still someway off and subject to the continued successful development of the concept.
Mitas PneuTrac provides better traction efficiency with lower slippage, resulting in lower operational costs, higher crop yields and less damage to soil compared with standard tyres. PneuTrac provides very stable driving at low inflation pressures, ensuring comfort and safety with no need to adjust inflation pressure. Mitas is developing its PneuTrac concept with its partner, Galileo Wheel Ltd.
The footprint of the Mitas PneuTrac is 53 per cent larger than that of a standard tyre, and it provides higher tractive force. This ensures gentle ground handling with much lower and improved distribution of pressure on the ground with less soil compaction. The lateral stability of Mitas PneuTrac is of a very high level compared with standard tyres – 167 per cent higher, to be precise. The PneuTrac is mounted on standard wheel rims.
