Mitas: Manufacturing begins of one of the largest agricultural tyres

Mitas has launched its 1250/50R32 Super Flexion Tyre (SFT) radial tyre, one of the world’s largest agricultural tyres, at the Farm Progress Show in Iowa.

Manufactured at Mitas’ North American plant at Charles City, Iowa, the 1250/50R32 SFT 188A8/185B weighs in at 555kg and becomes  the heaviest tyre in the company’s’ product portfolio. The tyre is designed for low-ground-pressure applications and is used on grain carts and combines, and is available worldwide now.

“Mitas produces the most demanding and complex off-road tyres; our ability to manufacture one of the world’s largest agricultural tyres proves it,” the company’s marketing and sales director, Andrew Mabin, said. “Mitas is the European leader in combine tyres sales, and also has significant market share in tractor tyres. With the Mitas 1250/50R32 SFT, we’re sending the clear message that we’ll maintain this prominent position.”

The size of the tyre is imposing. The Mitas 1250/50R32 SFT has a diameter of 2.02m,  a volume of 2.3 cubic metres and is capable of carrying loads of up to 16,000kg.

“Within two years of its opening, the Mitas plant at Charles City has established itself in the North American market through the production of premium quality tyres,” the president of Mitas Tires North America, Pavel Charvát, said. “Our largest SFT is the best example of this.”

In October 2013, Mitas installed three additional curing presses at the Charles City plant, reaching a total annual production capacity of 13,500t of tyres. Mitas’ heaviest tyre is being produced on a new prototype of the curing press. Because of the size of Mitas 1250/50R32 SFT, it’s the biggest curing press at any Mitas factory.
