Same: New Explorer and Dorado models introduced

The latest Same Explorer and Dorado tractor ranges have received a serious makeover with new engines, an updated cab and new styling. With a power rating within the popular 80hp to 120hp band, Same believes it’s now well placed to capture a significant slice of a tractor market for mid-power machines.
Key to the design of the new models is the introduction of a new modular engine, the Stage IIIB FarMotion, that has been developed and built by Same Deutz-Fahr (SDF). Available in three- and four-cylinder versions, cylinder capacity is 962cc, which makes for a 2.9-litre three-cylinder and a 3.9-litre four-cylinder. A new cylinder-head design improves diesel combustion and, as a result, helps to fully exploit the power potential of these engines.
Use of turbocharging and intercooling, along with high pressure (2,000 bar) electronically managed common-rail fuel injection, enables the three-cylinder FarMotion engine to produce an impressive 97hp and the four-cylinder 109hp. Exhaust emissions are controlled by a diesel oxidation catalyst and external exhaust gas recirculation.
The new Explorer is available in three versions: the Heavy Duty (HD); the more compact Medium Duty (MD) and Lighter Duty (LD).
In all, there are now 11 Explorer models, each available with mechanical or powershift transmissions. The three-model HD range have power ratings of 88hp, 102hp and 109hp and are equipped with four-cylinder FarMotion engines. Five models make up the MD range – a combination of three- and four-cylinder engines – for a power band from 88hp to 109hp, and the three-model LD range offers tractors from 75hp to 97hp, all of them using three-cylinder engines.

The Dorado 90 models are available with both three- or four-cylinder engines.

The new Dorado and Dorado Classic tractor line-up uses the FarMotion engine to offer 75hp (three-cylinder), 88hp (choice of three- and four-cylinder engines), and 102hp (four-cylinder).
For the operator, there’s a cab that now features more space, improved visibility and air circulation along with a better control layout.
As with other recent introductions to the Same tractor range, the new models have the external features of the
Giugiaro design, that are both pleasing to the eye and entirely functional.
Production of the new tractors, which commenced in July 2014, is taking place at SDF’s Traviglio plant in Italy.
