The all-new Trimble UX5, available through Cambridgeshire- based precision farming specialist AS Communications, provides an industry-leading solution for fast and safe aerial data capture.
The system’s launch coincides with the increasing use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) by both agronomists and growers for monitoring crop health, and this looks set to become a key element of precision farming technology.
The Trimble UX5 is a newly developed UAS that can be used to easily capture aerial images for monitoring crop health as well as for other applications such as measuring crop height and locating cattle over large areas. With a built-in 16.1 megapixel camera modified to capture the near infrared spectrum, the unit can also be utilised to help deduce vegetation indexes for both crop health assessment and variable-rate applications.
Built with an innovative design based on a production method patented by Trimble, the UX5 can fly at 70km/hr per hour, and can cover one square kilometre at a 5cm image resolution in a 45-minute flight.
Manufactured from EPP foam with a carbon frame structure, the UX5 has an easy-to maintain airframe that can be renewed through a plug-and-play fitting of protected internal electronics. High propulsion allows for a quick take-off while built-in thrust technology provides a short and steep landing circuit allowing for landing in confined spaces.
