The Fendt 800 and 900 Vario series tractors are already bestsellers in Western and Central Europe with a 33 per cent market share in the over-200hp power segment, but to consolidate this leading position the Agco brand has enhanced its flagship 900 and 800 Vario tractors to provide professional farming businesses with highly efficient, powerful tractors that meet the exacting demands for today and in the future.
With these new models Fendt is introducing 63 separate enhancements on the 900 Vario and 54 for the 800 Vario, which together offer users ground-breaking features that combine to provide the most efficient overall tractor concept. The new 800 Vario tractors offer users powers from 220-280hp, while the 900 Vario range goes from 270-390hp.
The precisely co-ordinated drivetrain, dynamic power delivery, higher driving and braking performance, optimised steering behaviour and numerous automatic support and safety systems all ease operator control and deliver a completely new and unique driving experience.
Thanks to two different-sized turbochargers, which are connected in series, and the addition of a charge-air intercooler, the new six-cylinder engines in these tractors deliver impressive, lively performance, efficiency and strength. Twin turbos optimise power output and fuel consumption in the low speed range, with the cooling from the additional intercooler ensuring better combustion and fuel efficiency. Further enhancements include sophisticated engine and transmission oil cooling systems, as well as one-part steel pistons for maximum resilience and durability.
The new Fendt 800 Vario and 900 Vario tractors meet the Euro Stage 4 emissions standard, which comes into effect in January 2014. To reach this level, the company has further developed its SCR technology, which uses an after treatment with AdBlue solution to clean the exhaust gases, along with the addition of a passive particulate filter and exhaust gas recirculation.
In combination with sophisticated engine technology, Fendt SCR with passive diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a technically advanced and efficient, fuel-saving system in which passive regeneration is carried out without requiring an additional injection of fuel into the exhaust line.
The Fendt system delivers the lowest overall operating costs compared with the other two systems available on the market – SCR plus active DPF and SCR only – that other manufacturers are using to comply with the new standard.
Increased engine cooling capacity and a lower rated speed of 2,100rpm (900 Vario) together with map-controlled AdBlue injection, also play their part in reducing fuel and AdBlue consumption. This is rounded out by ground-breaking environmental friendliness with 90 per cent fewer particles and nitrogen oxides.
Although the hydraulic system is one of the key components in the efficiency of a tractor, it can also one of the biggest consumers of energy. To save fuel, the new Fendt 900 and 800 Vario tractors are now equipped with an efficient variable-displacement steering pump that delivers only the pressure that’s actually required. This is just one component in the overall fuel-saving design concept.
The latest Vario transmission is not only stronger, it’s also easier to maintain. From the 933 Vario model onwards, the system has a reinforced interior housing and a completely new hydraulic pump cylinder roller bearing, which is used in Formula 1, to support even higher loads. This, along with longer rollers in the bearing, help to significantly improve hydraulic pump durability.
An exclusive heat exchanger, in combination with the more powerful transmission oil cooler, lowers operating temperatures and increases the lubricating characteristics to further extend longevity. The new, service-oriented transmission remote measuring point on the right side of the tractor saves a significant amount of time and ensures levels are checked easily and regularly.
To further improve the forward view in all conditions Fendt has introduced an innovative windscreen wiper that provides a broad 300-degree wiping angle. For the first time this offers operators an unobstructed view to the wheel arches and the front mounting. Together with the heated, bonded front window, available in laminated security glass as an option, these help to improve driving safety and comfort. Further detailed improvements include a lockable bonnet, which also has a significantly larger opening angle for improved access.
There are 63 separate enhancements to Fendt’s new 900 Series tractors. |
There’s no point having high power unless the tractor can transfer this to the ground to convert it into useful work. Only Fendt offers the comprehensive productivity benefits of VarioGrip, a tyre pressure regulation system that’s fully integrated in the vehicle and available as an option on the 800 and 900 Vario tractors.
Adjusting the tyre pressures provides higher traction, lower rolling resistance and lower fuel consumption, as well as significantly improved driving safety on the road. This exclusive and patented design offers fast tyre inflation through a high-capacity compressor, guarantees a high durability and operational reliability and also prevents the pressure lines from breaking away.
Moreover, VarioGrip provides 15 per cent more traction from the same horsepower. This means, for example, that a 936 Vario develops the same pulling capacity as that from tractors with 40hp more power without this technology. VarioGrip is conveniently controlled using the Variotronic, which allows two pressures to be set and stored per axle.
The modern X5 cab offers the perfect working conditions operators now expect from a Fendt; and improvements to the high-power tractor family further improve comfort and operation. The FendtReaction steering system, which has already received much praise in many comparisons, has been further refined with new steering servo valve calibration, which enhances straight-ahead driving while providing more agility and comfort in varying driving situations. The optional VarioActive steering system not only halves the number of steering wheel turns, it also responds with the smoothness and ease on par with passenger cars.
Operator comfort is also improved by the new air-conditioning system that delivers higher cooling capacity with lower fuel consumption. More ‘car comfort’ is offered by sensors that automatically dim the console lights to for pleasant illumination of the instruments, while making them easier and to see and read. The indicators now make an audible click to warn operators and improve safety on the road.
Air for the pneumatic driver’s seat is now supplied by the tractor’s air compressor, which eliminates noise in the cab when adjusting the seat. The radiator is automatically cleaned through a reversible fan option, which further eases maintenance.
The Variotronic operating concept from Fendt, which integrates all functions, including tractor and implement controls, camera operation, documentation and guidance, now offers some innovative enhancements, which improve versatility and appearance. The 10.4-B version now boasts a ‘smartphone’ look with a scratch-proof glass front, LED backlighting and is significantly easier to read. Moreover, Bluetooth performance has increased four-fold, providing much faster wireless transfer of tractor and job data from the field to office.
To help ensure the new 800 and 900 Vario high-power tractors area able to deliver their full potential, Fendt is introducing a range of new electronic control systems. These include automatic SectionControl operating up to 24 sections, a new entry-level VarioGuide light guidance system and AgCommand telemetry, as well as VarioDoc Pro documentation, which logs field data, fuel consumption and working time in the background. The new automatic maximum output control 2.0 now also provides perfect engine and transmission management.
