A new second-generation eprinomectin wormer with a zero-milk and just 10-day meat withholding periods has been launched by Norbrook Laboratories.
Eprizero will treat worms and external parasites including gutworm and lungworm, which can have a devastating effect on the productivity of cattle, particularly mature dairy cows at calving and during lactation.
“An infestation of gut or lung worm in a dairy herd can prove very costly to the farmer who could see milk yield drop by more than two litres/cow/day, dramatically lowered live weight gain, reduced body condition and significantly extended periods between calving,” Norbrook GB veterinary advisor Dr Barry McInerney said.
“Farmers need to be vigilant towards parasites to ensure not just the health of the herd but also the economic health of farm. As part of their herd health plan, farmers should consult their veterinary advisor to develop an effective worming strategy and choose the most effective treatment available.”
Eprizero is a pour-on solution containing eprinomectin that can increase dry matter intake by up to 1kg/day and improve conception rates at first service in heifers and dairy cows by 20 per cent. It has a zero milk withhold and the meat withdrawal period is just 10 days.
“The newly launched Eprizero offers farmers an extremely versatile wormer with proven effectiveness,” Dr McInerney added. “The zero milk and shorter meat withhold period of just 10 days, combined with the fact that the product is waterproof, gives farmers real versatility in terms of where and when they treat. Additionally, as a pour-on, it’s a very simple product to administer thereby reducing stress on the animal.”
Eprizero is available in four pack sizes – 250ml, 1 litre, 2.5 litres and 5.0 litres – with a free 75ml gun supplied with the two larger pack sizes. The product can be purchased via veterinary practices or local agricultural trade stores throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.
