Three new MF 3600 Xtra models from Massey Ferguson offering from 76-92hp were unveiled at the 2012 Eima Show to build on the success of the range’s existing, proven specialist vineyard, specialist and fruit tractors.
“With a completely new engine, new transmission, upgraded cab interior and greatly increased lift capacity, the transformed MF 3600 Xtra range offers three tractors that should be on every farmer’s shopping list for this size of machine,” Massey Ferguson brand development manager Campbell Scott said. “The MF 3600 Xtra tractors are the ideal size and power to excel at a wide range of tasks, providing the performance to boost efficiency on smaller family farms as well as livestock and mixed enterprises.”
The three new tractors are the 76hp MF 3630; the 84hp MF 3640 Xtra; and 92hp MF 3650. All three get their power from new Agco Powerengines that employ a common rail fuel injection system and Electronic Engine Management control that allows the engine to react immediately to changing loads and conditions.
Maximum power is developed at just 2,000rpm, which provides more power at the PTO and reduces fuel consumption and noise. There is constant power between 1,800rpm and 2,200rpm, which enables operators to throttle back and work at lower rpm – saving fuel and the need to change gear.
With electronics managing the engine speed, the rpm remains constant, which improves output and efficiency with PTO-powered implements and makes life easier for operators.
A further benefit of the Electronic Engine Management is it provides more convenience with a new electronic hand throttle that provides more accurate and precise engine speed.
There is also a new engine speed memory, which is activated by pressing a small button next to the throttle dial, to memorise and recall a set speed.
A new cab interior, which follows the familiar Massey Ferguson family style, offers high comfort and control and is quieter than predecessors.
Externally a new vertical exhaust pipe improves visibility by virtually disappearing behind the cab post and also allows the front windscreen to open fully. Inside, operators will find new Massey Ferguson-style switches in a new layout, along with new levers to control the three point linkage and hydraulic valves.
All three new MF 3600 Xtra tractors are equipped with the latest generation 24F/12R Powershuttle transmission, which provides efficient power delivery and exceptional operator convenience. Perfectly matched to the requirements of this power bracket, the new transmission offers push-button convenience with a declutch button, fitted to the top of the gear lever, which allows operators to change a mechanical gear, stop and pull away without having to use the clutch foot pedal. Ideally suited to loader work, operators can declutch with the button and shift the lever to change direction without using the foot clutch.
The Speedshift button splits each gear providing a total of 24 forward speeds and 12 reverse, from the four gears in three ranges. PowerShift operation is easy, simply involving pressing the Speedshift button to change up or down.
