Deutz-Fahr: Series 6 Agrotron tractors on the way

The new Deutz-Fahr Series 6 tractors – comprising six models between 150-190hp – have been designed to continue the success of the manufacturer’s popular Agrotron range that has achieved a leading position in many markets throughout the world thanks to its build quality, reliability and straightforward operating concept.
There are six models in the range starting with two short-wheelbase tractors, the 149hp 6150.4 and 166hp 6160.4. The remaining longer-wheelbase six-cylinder models are the 149hp 6150, the 166hp 6160, the 175hp 6180 and the 193hp 6190.
Powered by new Deutz TCD engines that drives through the new Sense-Shift transmission, the Series 6 tractors have been designed to combine maximum driving comfort with optimum efficiency. All Stage lllB compliant, the engines have four valves per cylinder and are turbocharged with intercooler and waste gate. Electronically managed, fuel is injected using the Deutz Common Rail system that operates at 1,600 bar. The exhaust gases are treated using an SCR catalytic converter that has replaced the previously used exhaust gas recirculation system.
The new Sense-Shift system is considered to be a major step forward in its ability to improve productivity and driving comfort. Offering six ranges with four powershift ratios for a total of 24 speeds in forward and reverse, there is an option of a creeper box for the four lowest ranges to provide a total of 40 ratios in each direction.
A wide overlap in the gear ratios allows it to stay in one mechanical gear for a specific working situation, while the change of the powershifts are automatically adjusted by a speed-matching function to create a stepless shift. When performing tasks requiring frequent directional changes like loader work, the new Sense Clutch function allows the operator to adjust the aggressiveness of the change of direction.

Series 6 tractors can also be equipped with an automatic transmission that employs an electronic control to select the most appropriate working ratio within the four-powershift ratios of each range.
In terms of transport and engine speed, the 6160 model will do 40km/hr at an engine speed of 1,550rpm – the benefits being lower fuel consumption and greater operator comfort from the low noise and vibration level.
In the traction department, an electronic control unit automatically selects or deselects four-wheel drive and locks or unlocks the differentials in respect of speed and steering angle – a useful aid when ploughing and making headland turns as it is when driving the tractor at speed along the road.
Series 6 tractors are equipped as standard with four PTO modes including those for 540 and 1,000 Economy. Electro-hydraulic engagement/disengagement is standard, as is automatic load sensing to enable a gradual and progressive start up for powered implements.
For the hydraulics, an 83 lit/min fixed displacement pump (a 120 lit/min load-sensing pump is available if specified) supplies oil to a generous number of spool valves – up to seven double-acting electronically controlled for the P-designated models with automatic transmissions. The rear linkage lift capacity is rated at 9,200kg and the optional front linkage is rated at 3,800kg.

The Series 6 tractors feature either a 4.1-litre four-cylinder Deutz TCD engine or a 6.1-litre six-cylinder unit.

Tractor braking has long been an important issue for Deutz-Fahr and the new Series 6 range make no compromises in this area. The Power Brake is fitted as standard and there is now an option for oil immersed disc brakes on the front axle as well.
Externally, the tractor has a neat and appealing style that has been developed in partnership with Giugiaro – a long time consultant for Deutz-Fahr product developments. For the operator the S-Class cab has been designed to provide a comfortable working environment to make those long working days a breeze. The cab can also be equipped with either mechanical or pneumatic suspension.
The cab can also be fitted with controllers such as the Infocentre, the optional iMonitor and Comfort Tip for automatic repetition of headland manoeuvres. The standardised Isobus 11783 interface provides fast, plug-and-play for compatible equipment and, for accurate tractor steering, there’s AgroSky to provide automated satellite guidance.
Other cab features include integrated steps, automatic interior lighting and panoramic windows that provide 320-degree visibility. There’s also a glass roof hatch complete with sunblind.
