Spearhead will launch its all-new Twiga Self-propelled Vehicle (SPV) at the IOG SALTEX show in September. The new machine combines the company’s high-specification Twiga reach mower with a multi-function tool carrier.
The new range has been dubbed the perfect solution for vegetation control as the self-propelled, multi-purpose Twiga SPV is set to deliver peak performance combined with a reliable and safe environment demanded by the most professional of operators.
Targeted at internal drainage boards, Environment Agency, local authorities, agricultural contractors, highway contractors and railway vegetation control contractors, the Twiga SPV range combines the power of an excavator with the versatility of a tractor.
Engine power throughout all models, which are built by Italian manufacturer Energreen, is supplied by Deere Powersystems in the form of the PowerTech engine that delivers between 115-173hp. Featuring a rotating cabin and flail head to allow work to be carried out in both directions while maintaining a constant speed, productivity is dramatically increased by significantly reducing back tracking.
Inside the cab, the machine is designed for comfort with an ergonomic seat providing the best working position possible. Armrests on the seat house either one or two joysticks dependant on specification, maximising operator comfort while providing ultimate accessibility to switches and controls. Visibility from the cabin is exemplary with a clear line of site towards the cutting zone.
Twisting in the seat or turning your neck to look over your shoulder is also eliminated as the operator is positioned to look clearly forward at the cutting head and not out of a side or rear window. This results in a more efficient operator not troubled by fatigue, stress and back pain.
The purpose-built Twiga SPV range is also designed specifically for reach mowing work, not for carrying out the multitude of tasks expected from conventional tractrors. The result of this specialism means that stability is greatly improved with weight evenly distributed across the machine meaning that all stability criteria is complied with. At full reach the arms are also counterbalanced by ballasts meaning that the machine remains safe from overturn.
In terms of manoeuvrability the Twiga SPV delivers more versatility than any tractor-mounted unit, providing three steering modes that allow any tight or difficult situation to be tackled.
At the heart of the Twiga SPV range is a multiple hydraulic system that provides individual systems for a set of functions rather than one individual system for all machine functions. Five pumps controlling a set of functions each ensures that the machine only needs to work at 50 per cent of full capacity to provide longer component life and increased reliability. Raw cutting power is achieved with the 95hp flail circuit delivering one of the most powerful outputs in the reach mower market.
Encompassing five models, arm-sets are available from 8-17m in reach, with a host of various different attachments also in the range. In addition, the machine is also capable of towing a trailer of up to 13t.
Following the September launch, Spearhead will embark on a nationwide demonstration tour that will provide interested operators across the UK with the chance to try the new machine for themselves.
