Spaldings: Kites and rockets added to bird-scaring range

Spaldings has introduced bird-scaring kites and rockets to its existing pest management portfolio. The new additions complement the company’s existing gas-fired bird scarer and offers growers a wider range of bird control options that can work together to provide variation in the field.
“The bird scaring rockets are ideal for scaring large groups of pigeons and are even more effective when used in conjunction with other bird scaring devices,” Spaldings’ agricultural sales director, Roger Chase, said. “Rockets have the advantage of being able to be fired towards the flock, lifting them off the crop with a loud overhead explosion. This can then be followed by a second rocket which dispersers the birds in the air.”
The new range also includes a bird scaring kite that is self launching from an extendable 7m pole. Due to its design, the durable kite is constantly altering its flight pattern, height and speed preventing birds becoming accustomed to it. The kite will protect approximately 20 acres of land from pigeon attack.
“The bird scaring hawk, meanwhile, flies at up to 50m high and will provide protection from pigeons for up to 80 acres by exploiting the birds’ fear of hovering objects.
