Väderstad’s first precision maize drill will be launched at Agritechnica 2011. The Tempo is a trailed six- to eight-row drill that’s designed to be used at high speed in conventional, reduced tillage and no-till conditions and will be available in the UK for the 2012 season.
A pressurised seed meter ensures that the drill is insensitive to both slopes and vibrations. And electrical seed drive means the row units can be shut-off individually and makes calibrating a simple operation. Seed rates can also be altered on the move. Since each seed meter has a seed sensor, it is possible to test the accuracy of each seed meter with different seed qualities before the season starts.
To reduce vibrations at high speed, each row unit is designed with trailing gauge wheels connected to a walking tandem. To ensure a good seed-to-soil contact, the row unit is equipped with a press wheel directly after the seed tube.
Combi drilling is an option with the Tempo, allowing fertiliser application at the same time as drilling. A large central hopper can be filled with big bags or in bulk from a telehandler bucket. The frame-mounted fertiliser coulter is designed to minimise soil movement at high speed and ensures nutrients are placed 5cm to the side of the seed and 2cm below it.
The Tempo is offered with different row distances and folding is achieved either manually or hydraulically. Large transport wheels ensure a smooth ride in the field and on the road.
