Kverneland has introduced a wireless hand-held controller for its Siloking diet feeders. Developed by the firm’s in-house electronics business, Mechatronics, the unit was reveale at the 2011 Dairy Event and Livestock Show.
Called Portus, the system operates with two hand-held controllers – one for the loader, and one for the feeder tractor – to replace the on-board display scale on the feeder that can often be in the wrong place to see properly, or can be difficult to read in bright sunlight when loading. Both devices share information stored on the diet feeder’s main electronic control box.
The hand-held devices can be configured to allow operation of the feeder conveyors and discharge doors, in addition to providing weighing functions. They require 12v power, via an in-cab power socket, to operate. Using remote radio communications, the system offers a working range of up to 1,500m.
