Case IH is to expand its Magnum Series to include a new Magnum 370 CVT model from late 2012. The new 370 will offer a maximum boosted output of 419hp, making it the most powerful conventional tractor on the market.
At the same time, Case IH will start offering its operator-friendly Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) technology will be offered across the entire Magnum line-up, including the current 235, 260, 290, 315 and 340 models.
Speaking at the 2011 Farm Progress Show in Illiinois, United States, Case IH’s marketing manager for Magnum tractors, John Bohnker, said the new Magnum 370 CVT would represent the company’s most powerful MFD (mechanical front drive) tractor yet, and would continue to deliver the efficient power that the Magnum Series is known for.
“This new addition to the Magnum Series is designed to deliver power to the ground with larger row crop implements such as planters, toolbars and strip-till rigs that bring economies of scale to large-acreage operations,” he added.
The new Magnum 370 features Fiat Powertrain Technologies’ 8.7-litre with SCR technology that delivers up to 419hp. The tractor’s heavy-duty Surround Frame provides the framework and working-weight ballast needed to transfer high horsepower levels to the ground. To harness this added power, the new Magnum 370 will feature a heavier final drive and rear axle assembly.
“The new CVT transmission for the Magnum 235-370 models provides excellent mechanical efficiency through a four-gear range system,” Mr Bohnker said. “With the CVT transmission you can go from 0-30mph without having to manually shift. Since the MultiControl handle operates like a propulsion lever, you have more opportunity to concentrate on the task at hand,” adds Bohnker. “You get the optimum combination of power, efficiency and ease of operation. CVT allows your tractor to find the sweet spot between power and efficiency, honing in on the optimal combination of engine RPM and transmission gear for the task.”
The new CVT transmission provides smooth operation with seamless shifting and a continuous selection of working speeds. The simplicity of Case IH CVT technology makes it ideal for less experienced operators and hired help. Operators can utilise the MultiControl Armrest to control the CVT transmission in a manner similar to, yet even easier to operate than, traditional Case IH full Powershift transmissions. That makes it an easy transition for older hands along with an easy learning curve for new operators.
“With the new CVT transmission and added power in the Magnum 370, producers can take on today’s bigger planting and tillage tools, allowing producers to expand their operation,” Mr Bohnker said.
