Extensive customer consultations across Europe helped create the specifications for three new telescopic handlers – the MF9306, MF9407 and MF9407S – which are an entirely ‘clean sheet’ design, presenting completely new technology and features from the axles upwards. Meanwhile another new model, the MF9205, is a compact telescopic handler that is constructed on a smaller chassis and is perfectly suited for work inside buildings and other confined spaces.
“The uncompromising design of the MF 9000 Series offers the best visibility on the market through the unique curved rear screen. They are also very compact, agile and manoeuvrable,” says Massey Ferguson’s Marketing Manager for Handling Equipment, Florent Guilleman. “The short, wide chassis provides exceptional stability, while the laterally, side-mounted engine offers great access for service.”
A completely new boom design and mounting pivot, along with powerful new hydraulics, mean the MF 9000 Series offers lift capacities and heights that are ideally suited to a range of applications, while the new boom and mounting further improve loading efficiency.
The MF 9000 Series replaces the MF 8900 Xtra range, although the current MF 89410 model remains in production.
An innovative and patented curved side and rear window fitted into the new cab on the MF 9000 Series, coupled with the low (1.75m) boom mounting position, offers an unrestricted view to the rear right-hand side. This unique design means there is no cab pillar to obstruct the view, offering the best vision in the industry – bar none.
The spacious cab is 900mm wide, which provides plenty of shoulder room for even the largest operators. Clever use of a curved front windscreen – which extends from the front right over the roof – also increases space and leg room. This makes it one of the largest handler workplaces on the market and, at 75db(A), it’s also very quiet, and is, of course, fully ROPS and FOPS approved. There is also a choice of optional air-conditioning and pneumatic seat suspension.
Inside the cab, the dashboard is located in the right corner, leaving an unobstructed view of the boom carriage and attachment. The simple dashboard layout is easy to read and is mounted just in front of the new joystick, which provides proportional control. A shuttle reverse lever is mounted on the left, within a finger’s reach of the steering wheel. A separate button is used to place the boom into the float position. Boom suspension for transport is a valuable option to increase comfort and stability for roadwork.
Access to the Perkins engine and cooling package could not be clearer. Mounted on the right of the machine, the engine is fitted lengthways parallel to the boom, which makes everything easy to reach. The hydrostatic and hydraulic pumps, fitted to the front of the engine, are also easily accessible.
The MF9306 and MF9407 are powered by the latest 100hp, Perkins 1104D-TA, mechanical injection engines, while the larger MF9407S has a 130hp, 1104D-ETA engine, which provides extra power often required for straw merchants and other contractors, particularly those doing a lot of road work and towing trailers.
A cooling pack, which folds up for cleaning, is mounted at the front of the engine compartment, above the hydraulic pumps and the fan can be reversed for cleaning. The radiators and oil coolers have the capacity to cope with the most arduous operating conditions.
A short, 2.87m wheelbase, and wide chassis design provides a stable platform and offers top manoeuvrability as well as low ground pressure from fitting wide tyres – including 460/70 R24 or 500/70 R24 XMCL. The standard four-wheel steering and compact design ensures an exceptional turning radius that allows the agile loaders to excel in confined spaces.

A new four-speed hydrostatic gearbox provides a true top speed of up to 40km/hr (depending on local legislation). The powerful hydrostatic system has two mechanical gears with electric selection, with a two-speed splitter for each speed. More comfort for the operator is provided by a creeper speed, which allows high revs to be used for fast boom responses at slower travel speeds
These advanced features ensure the machine is able to work at optimum output all of the time, with the unrivalled smooth and accurate response that is available only from a hydrostatic transmission. The powerful system also allows heavier loads to be towed safely and efficiently.
A strong, steel belly plate runs the full length of the chassis, providing unrivalled protection when working on rough, uneven ground and in rutted tracks.
The MF 9000 Series benefits from a new boom, with low 1.75m pivot point, which is engineered to the highest specifications to handle the heaviest agricultural workloads. Although this comes with its own toolcarrier, it can be customised to fit a wide range of types to fit existing attachments, to help reduce costs.
The new 190 lit/min closed centre, load-sensing hydraulic pump provides best in class flowrates for a fast and powerful response to improve loading cycle times. Precise and smooth operation of all boom functions is ensured by a new proportional joystick, which is also equipped with buttons for operating ancillary circuits.
A new, useful boom float function for scraping floors and loading off uneven surfaces is engaged at the touch of a button. There is also the option of boom suspension to protect the machine and operator from jarring, particularly in transport.
MF9205
The MF9205 is a tiny, but powerful, telescopic handler that, thanks to its many best-in-class features, makes it a more versatile alternative to traditional loaders. The compact dimensions and superb manoeuvrability, combined with its unrivalled 5.21m maximum height and long reach, brings the benefits of telescopic handling to work in low buildings and confined spaces.
Powered by a 75hp, four-cylinder engine, which is laterally, side-mounted, the loader has a new hydrostatic transmission with standard Speed Control System and a top speed of 25km/hr. Built on a completely new chassis design, the MF9205 measures just 1.98m high and 1.83m wide (on 14 x 17.5m tyres) and is 3.9m long. It can turn in a radius of just 3.17m.
Despite its diminutive dimensions the MF9205 packs a powerful handling punch, taking a maximum 2.2t load to its maximum lift height of 5.21m. The boom can support a 1t load at its, best in class, forward reach of 3.01m.
While the machine may be small, operators are still cossetted in a spacious, 845mm wide cab, which combines comfort with superb all-round visibility. Air conditioning is an option. The cab is equipped to a high standard, including an ergonomic layout with fully proportional joystick control of all the boom functions.
Boom float, operated by a switch on the joystick is a new valuable option that allows the attachment to follow uneven surfaces.
