Secure Trade: Revolutionary tarpaulin range launched

London-based Secure Trade Ltd has launched a new range of revolutionary tarpaulins that are claimed to be stronger and better than any that are currently on the market.

Made in India using the Swiss developed and patented film Silpaulin, the new ToughTop tarpaulins offer greater strength at a lighter weight than traditional tarpaulins and heavy-duty plastic sheeting. For example, ToughTop that weighs 70 grams/square metre (gsm) is as strong as a traditonal tarpaulin made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE)at 120gsm. Similarly, a 120gsm ToughTop tarpaulin is equivalent to an HDPE sheet of 200gsm and a 250gsm ToughTop can be used in place of a 500gsm HDPE tarpaulin.

The extra strength of the ToughTop tarpaulin means that less plastic is required, making it not only a more eco-friendy product, but one that is much easier to handle.

ToughTop applications include their use for growing tunnels.

Tarpaulins are used throughout the farming industry across the globe, but current products can be poor performers even if manufactured to the highest quality and standards. Woven polyethylene tarpaulins have traditionally been heavy, not too eco-friendly and not always 100 per cent recyclable. They have also tended to be susceptiple to developing cracks and losing their waterproof qualities in a short period of time, while if they develop a tear, this tends to grow and make the product useless.

The ToughTop tarpaulins don’t experience any of these problems. They are made from sheets of Silpaulin plastic that are extruded, cross laminated and bonded to make them stronger. The tarpaulins are left with a ribbed finish that is very strong and will stretch rather than tear, and even if it does tear, the tear will not grow no matter where it occurs on the sheet. Any tears that do occur can be repaired by heat sealing or applying duck tape for a more temporary fix.

The ToughTop tarpaulin is 100 per cent waterproof and will not fade or dry out and crack. It is currently being used all across the Indian sub-continent in many agricultural applications and has almost completely replaced woven tarpaulins in the sector. It has also been used for damp-proof membranes, pond linings, irrigation canal linings, mulching, greenhouse film, fumigation covers, poultry curtains, water tank lining and many other uses.

The ToughTop is strong enough to be used as a reservoir lining.

The product is more expensive that traditional tarpaulins, but it comes with a guarantee of 2-5 years against cracking, fading or losing its 100 per cent waterproof qualities. ToughTop says it is the first tarpaulin to offer such a guarantee and is confident that its products will have a long lifespan.

Secure Trade Ltd is offering a limited initial range of ToughTop tarpaulins in sizes up to 12m square. These include 70gsm sheets up to 5.4m x 7.2m in blue; 90gsm sheets up to 4m x 5m in green; 120gsm sheets up to 6m x 6m in red; and 250gsm sheets up to 12m x 12m in black.
