John Deere has introduced the new Raven SmartBoom, which offers a GPS automatic boom section control option to customers buying or owning basic specification sprayers.
The system has been designed as a lower-cost alternative for those that don’t require all the features of a higher-specification i-Series machine, but who would still like to benefit from easier, more-accurate spraying and reduced input costs.
SmartBoom is a standalone system that connects between John Deere’s EL4 spray controller and a mounted or trailed sprayer. Once turned on, SmartBoom uses GPS data from John Deere’s StarFire satellite receiver to turn the sprayer on or off at previously sprayed areas or mapped no-spray zones.
The Raven SmartBoom controller brings boom section control to any sprayer with a compatible controller. |
In addition to being compatible with new John Deere trailed sprayers, the system can be used with older 500 Contractor mounted sprayers, 700 Series Farmer, 800 and 800SE trailed machines, as well as other sprayer brands fitted with the TeeJet 844E controller. SmartBoom works with GPS signals of all accuracies, from +/- 2-30cm.
The basic price of the Raven SmartBoom option is £1,576 (April 2011).
