Techneat: Vari-Scary respects silent Sunday

An innovative new clock feature on Techneat’s Vari-Scary gas gun now allows farmers and growers to pre-programme the bird unit not to go off during a set period each week. This can be used to create a ‘silent Sunday’, which can help keep neighbours happy and save on gas costs.
“Proactively informing local communities that you will be operating a ‘silent Sunday’ policy can help to avert criticism and complaints,” Techneat’s Tom Neat said. “The Vari-Scary makes it easy to fully comply with the NFU Code of Practice for bird scarers and deterrents, which encourages users not to use gas guns on Sundays.”
In practice, adopting a ‘silent Sunday’ is unlikely to result in large numbers of pigeons migrating into the crop, unless it is already under intense pest pressure. Missing one day of the Vari-Scary’s infinitely variable shot pattern sequence further avoids familiarisation of pigeon populations and maintains the high level of deterrent efficacy that can be achieved.
The reliability of the unique Vari-Scary seven-day clock has been a major step forward in avoiding annoying early starts or failing to stop, associated with older mechanical or light sensitive timers. Also, being light and transportable, the Vari-Scary can be easily and quickly moved around within the field or between crops, which minimises impact on neighbours and the further keeps pests guessing.
Mr Neat said that the Vari-Scary could be pre-set to miss any day or period in the week, which offered the chance to make substantial savings in gas costs.
“Taking out two days in a week period would reduce gas consumption by nearly 30 per cent,” he said.” Combined with the programmable variable-shot patterns, pigeons and other pests can be kept constantly on the move.”
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Techneat Vari-Scary is fitted with the unique 24-hour, seven-day full variable-sequence clock as standard, along with high-lift legs to ensure good gunshot projection across the field. Camouflage jackets are available for both the Vari-Scary gas guns and gas bottles.
The Vari-Scary can be ordered on-line from just £295 (November 2010 price).
