The Kverneland Group has launched its next-generation Isobus terminal complete with dual-screen display that enables two Isobus compatible implements to be simultaneously monitored and controlled. Called the IsoMatch Tellus terminal, it has a 32cm touch-screen display – currently the largest of its type on the market – giving clear graphics and easy control of machine tasks through its touch-screen functions.
As the next generation of controllers for the ISO 11783 standard, this new terminal makes it possible to control and view two Isobus-compatible implements without the need to toggle between screens.
“As the number of machines being operated through the plug-and-play Isobus standard increases, there is a greater requirement for a sophisticated dual-screen control system,” Kverneland Group Isobus specialist Graham Owen said. “And the permutations for machine monitoring and control are much more advanced with this terminal.”
The Kverneland Group has introduced 29 different ISO-compatible machines throughout its Vicon and Kverneland brands including fertiliser spreaders, sprayers, seed drills, forage wagons, balers and Balepack baler-wrapper combinations. To date, there are more than 16,000 Kverneland Group ISO-compatible machines working worldwide.
And being of a universal standard, the IsoMatch Tellus is not restricted to controlling simply Kverneland Group products – it can also be used to control competitors’ ISO-compatible machines too.
“IsoMatch Tellus can be set-up to show the tractor’s function screen while simultaneously displaying the control screen for the machine in use,” Mr Owen added. “Alternatively, one screen can be used with a rear-view camera, or the operator can use both screens to manage two different control functions on one implement.
“For example, an ISO-compatible sprayer, such as the Vicon iXter, can be displayed on the top part of the screen while the auto-boom height control could be shown on the lower half.”
IsoMatch Tellus has been developed to replace the group’s original Tellus terminal, which has been available since 2001. The new terminal is contained in a cast aluminium housing with a rubber grip located down the right-hand side. |
IsoMatch Tellus has been developed to replace the group’s original Tellus terminal, which has been available since 2001. The new terminal is contained in a cast aluminium housing with a rubber grip located down the right-hand side. All buttons on the touch-screen are now located alongside the grip, which is said to make it easier to thumb through functions while resting your right-hand on the grip.
There is also an IsoMatch stop button located on the top of the grip, which is programmed to deactivate equipment safely and quickly, without having to negotiate different control screens to follow shut-down sequences.
The terminal will plug straight into any ISO-ready tractor that complies with the industry-wide ISO 11783 standard – but for those without an ISO ready tractor, the IsoMatch Tellus terminal can be supplied with a dedicated wiring loom allowing installation to non-ISO tractors.
Electronics engineers at Kverneland Group’s Mechatronics Centre, in the Netherlands, have developed the IsoMatch Tellus terminal to be expandable. In addition to being used for data input and export purposes, which is essential for application maps and traceability, multiple terminals can be daisy-chained together along with external ISO controllers such as joysticks or third-party GPS steering systems.
Each terminal also comes with four USB ports – one of which is waterproof – and an RS232 input for GPS receivers and sensors, plus additional ports are fitted for a video camera feed and tractor input.
There is also a built-in internet browser that connects via Bluetooth, enabling web and e-mail access from the field, while electronic handbooks and manuals can be uploaded onto the terminal’s 16GB flash memory, eliminating the need to clutter the cab with traditional paper handbooks.
“The Isobus standard provides genuine plug and play compatibility with a vast range of implements from many different manufacturers, and the IsoMatch Tellus terminal provides a huge step forward in further simplifying machine control,” Mr Owen said.
The IsoMatch Tellus is priced from £2,900 for an ISO-ready tractor. A non-ISO tractor wiring loom adds £230 to the cost.
