McConnel: Long-reach PA70T can now be linkage mounted

Professional hedge-cutting and verge-mowing contractors with the need for a versatile, long-reach machine that can be quickly hitched and unhitched from the tractor now have the option of the McConnel PA70T.
Featuring an impressive 7.0m reach (including 1.0m of telescoping), this combination was previously only available as a five-point axle-mounted machine due its weight, but can now also be supplied as a three-point-linkage-mounted machine. This has been achieved by fabricating the PA70T from Domex steel. As this material has twice the strength of mild steel, it has enabled the weight to be reduced without sacrificing build strength.
At the flailhead, a 65hp direct drive totally independent hydraulic system (derated from 85hp) with an oil cooler as standard and a new revolutionary gear pump rated at 310 bar – 150% more than the actual system pressure – maintains its efficiency further across the entire pressure range of operation. It also provides increased reliability and durability as the pump is working well within its capability.
A new design of telescopic arm has resulted in a compact overall arm geometry, making the versatile PA70T ideal for close cutting and working in areas where height restrictions may be an issue – low bridges or cables for example – with the availability of additional reach when required. The new telescoping arm has been designed with ease of assembly and adjustment in mind and has the wear pads placed along the edges of the box section, where they also provide the best support.
With ease of servicing a crucial aspect of efficient machine operation, the filtration on the PA70T provides a high degree of protection and incorporates a special return element that gives the capacity of double spin-on filters but allows new oil to be poured through the filter to ensure it is clean before it enters the system. Two large capacity suction filters protect the pumps and can be removed from outside the tank for cleaning or replacement.
Additional new features include a new metal rear cover with the cooler integrated in the rear bumper bar, a location that allows the ingress of clean air. The bumper bar also provides excellent protection for the cooler and allows it to be accessible for cleaning.
Reflecting the McConnel PA70T’s high level of specification, parallel Hy-reach arm geometry, hydraulic safety breakaway, power slew and road lighting are standard. A choice of control systems is available, including the company’s Easy Drive System for automatic verge flotation.
The minimum recommended power requirement for the McConnel PA70T is 65hp (with a tractor weight of 4,000kg) and it has an entry-level price of  £27,400.
