Massey Ferguson: New top-end models for the 7000 Series

Massey Ferguson is extending its highly successful MF 7400 Series with the addition of the 225hp MF7497 and 240hp MF7499 models. Both are equipped to a high specification and feature the output enhancing Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission.
“The MF 7400 Series is already the professional’s choice. These new models combine the power of the 7.4 litre, Agco Sisu Power engine with the precision of the Dyna-VT transmission, which together offer optimum productivity and economy along with comfort from the exceptionally quiet cab,” Massey Ferguson’s
Laurent Pernin said. “The higher power, strength and excellent weight distribution of the new MF7497 and MF7499 make them very versatile tractors, capable of high work rates in a range of modern operations.
“They are particularly manoeuvrable for their power and, fitted with an integrated front-linkage system, they are the perfect host for front and rear mower, drilling and spraying combinations. The tractors feature a high level of automation as standard providing many output-enhancing features that improve control, relieve the strain on the operator and ultimately ensure the work gets done faster and more economically.”
The new MF7497 and MF7499 are both powered by the well proven Agco Sisu Power, 7.4 litre capacity engine. Equipped with four valves/cylinder and common rail fuel injection, these reliable engines are renowned for their fuel efficient operation.
The engines have a much higher capacity than others in the sector. This allows the tractors to not only achieve higher pulling power and torque at lower engine rpm, but also maintain this output across a wide operating rpm range. This improves both productivity and economy because the engine does not have to work so hard to achieve the power and torque, which saves fuels, cuts noise and reduces wear.
Dyna-VT, based on the world’s most proven continuously variable transmission, is highly efficient and transmits maximum engine power to the wheels, as well as offering ultimate economy and control.
Its ability to allow users to set any combination of forward and engine rpm speeds means Dyna-VT provides optimum control, work quality and exceptional productivity. It provides speeds from 30m/hr to 40 or 50km/hr, in just two ranges, unlike other manufacturers’ designs that use four ranges.
Dyna-VT has a range of automatic operating modes, controlled by a foot pedal or a lever, as well as Massey Ferguson’s unique Power Control lever. Mounted on the left-hand side of the dashboard, this allows operators to change direction, adjust speeds up and down and select active stop, while leaving the right hand free to operate other functions.
The new, fully adjustable Dynamic Tractor Management system is an electronic link between engine and transmission that adjusts the engine speed according to the load to minimise rpm for optimum economy. This manages the engine speed automatically and works in both pedal and lever modes to consistently maximise productivity whilst at the same time minimising fuel consumption.
MF has developed a new front axle support casting that assists in mounting a new fully integrated front linkage and PTO option to the MF7497 and MF7499 models. Close-coupling of the 4,000kg capacity front linkage provides a neat, compact mounting for additional strength without affecting the turning circle of the tractors, which are exceptionally manoeuvrable for their size. Combining operations increases productivity and saves time and fuel.

The MF7499 offers 240hp in conjunction with a 4,000kg front linkage.

The ingenious front Dual Control system raises and lowers the implement automatically, using a distance-based system, which considerably eases the driver’s workload when turning.
The 50km/hr top road speed, high engine power and superb Dyna-VT transmission make the MF7497 and MF7499 ideal for heavy haulage and roadwork. The addition of the QuadLink front suspension option not only permits high speeds to be achieved with great comfort, but also in complete safety. The suspension can be switched on or off and automatically compensates for the additional weight of an implement on the front, providing the same movement up and down without impeding the axle oscillation or turning circle.
In the field, QuadLink is also shown to improve traction by up to 20%. Hydralock, a standard front axle feature, offers genuine four-wheel drive (not three), by locking the front and rear axles together for optimum traction.
A 110 lit/min, load-sensing hydraulic system is standard on the new Massey Ferguson MF 7497 and MF 7499 tractors (150 lit/min is an option). The renowned Electronic Linkage Control provides precise operation and quick reactions, for higher productivity from increased traction with lower wheel slip and tyre wear.
Electronic operation of the auxiliary hydraulics offers proportional spool valve flow control for accurate, convenient control. The SMS armrest-mounted, joystick controls two spool valves for convenient and accurate operations of, for example, loaders. A Power Beyond port enables simple and easy use of implements equipped with hydraulic motors.
The Datatronic 3 option provides auto-operation in the comprehensive Headland Management System, which memorises functions and repeats sequences at a touch of a button. Further automation comes from the optional front and rear Dual Control, Trailed Implement Control plus the facility to memorise flow and timing of spool valves.
Trailed Implement control is a unique system that, with the addition of a sensor on implement, provides draft control (based on monitoring wheelslip) for trailed and semi-mounted equipment.
Dual Control simplifies operation of front- and rear-mounted combinations by automatically raising and lowering both implements at pre-set distances. This can also be incorporated into Headland Management.
The new MF7497 and MF7499 are fitted with a spacious and extremely quiet – 70dB(A) – and comfortable cab in which all the controls are laid out logically and within easy reach.
Dual Stage, pneumatic suspension provides +/- 50mm of vertical travel, with settings for field or road with the system automatically adjusting the suspension to suit the work. Automatic climate control for the air-conditioning constantly maintains the cab temperature.
Massey Ferguson pioneered the tractor electronic control revolution and today continues to lead with its Datatronic 3 terminal, which provides a high degree of automation and control, monitoring and recording from a single terminal. The Isobus option will also control compatible implements with simple plug in and play connectivity and can also display the image from an on-board video camera, if fitted.
Users are able record detailed information on all the tractor’s operating settings as well as position if fitted with GPS receiver. A standard SD card is used to transfer data to and from the terminal, comes with Massey Ferguson’s Communicator software as standard. This is used for simple record keeping with further levels of software building into a complete job planning, mapping and even set variable rate applications.
Employing the accuracy offered by Auto-Guide is proven to help operators to increase output, save fuel and improve precision.
The factory-fitted Auto-Guide system comprises a steering angle sensor, electronic steering orbitrol unit and Top Dock roof-mounted antenna. Auto-Guide operates through the tractor’s Datatronic 3 system, with the screen displaying the track and settings.
