JCB: 527-58 Agri Loadall packs performance into tight dimensions

The latest addition to the JCB Agriculture telescopic handler range will be welcomed by farmers and others who must access buildings through relatively small doorways, and by operators whose preference is for hydrostatic drive.
The new 527-58 Agri has been designed to package the performance and features of the renowned JCB telescopic handlers into the smallest side-engined Loadall yet. In low-cab specification, the new handler is no more than 2m wide and 2m tall.
At the same time, it is the first Loadall to combine proven hydrostatic drive technology and the chassis and cab layout of the larger side-engine machines.
“The flexibility of a hydrostatic drive installation certainly helped in packaging the machine to achieve the target dimensions,” JCB Agriculture managing director Richard Fox-Marrs said. “But it also provides the driving and control characteristics that operators used to a hydro machine will find familiar, when upgrading from one of our compact models, for example.”
Axle width and wheel size also play a part in meeting the 2m width specification. But it still called for considerable attention to detail on the part of JCB engineers, who designed recessed door hinges and a recessed door handle to achieve the required dimensions rather than compromise driver comfort by reducing the interior width of the cab.
“Every millimetre counts when you’re developing a machine to pass through narrow doorways and work within the confines of a small building,” Mr Fox-Marrs added. “Our engineers have produced a machine with strong appeal wherever access height and width are at a premium.
“In particular, I think livestock farmers with old buildings featuring low, narrow doorways will welcome the opportunity to operate a machine that does not compromise on performance.”
Powered by a 100hp version of the record-breaking JCB Dieselmax engine, the 527-58 Agri Loadall has ample power and torque for serious loading, lifting and handling duties. Its gear pump hydraulics deliver up to 126 lit/min oil flow and the telescopic arm can lift 2,700kg, with up to 1,250kg lift capacity when the is boom extended. Full height lift is 5.8m and forward reach is 3m.
A slightly narrower track than on other Loadall side-engine handlers not only minimises overall width, but adds to the machine’s manoeuvrability. At 3.15m, the outside turn radius using four-wheel steering helps the 527-58 work in and around buildings with ease.
Despite the machine’s carefully pared dimensions, the operator gets to work in a full-size cab with a layout, equipment and quality finish that are familiar to Loadall operators. There is even a choice of mounting positions, so that where overall height is not an issue, the cab can be installed in the upper of two positions to further improve the already impressive all-round visibility.
