Buschoff’s new BHOS Duo hammer-mill can produce two different grades of feed without the need for time-consuming, knuckle-scraping screen changes.
Feed structure is very important in maintaining animal health and often it is necessary to vary the composition of home-produced rations for stock of different ages.
Hammer-mills have long been favoured by farmers for their simplicity and ease of use but by their nature they are limited to producing feed of a particular grade – dictated by the screen fitted.
To alter diet structure a screen change is required, but often a lack of time means this doesn’t happen and that animals don’t receive the right ration. The only way around this is to have different mills to produce different grade diets – a very capital-intensive investment.
Buschhoff’s latest development maintains the simplicity of standard hammer-mills, but doubles their versatility. Bi-directional hammers and a reversible motor mean that cereals can be ground through different size screens depending on the direction of rotor travel.
Two different grade feeds can be produced with one mill at the flick of a switch. In fact, the BHOS Duo can be integrated into a computer-controlled feed processing plant and the switch between fine and coarse grades completely automated as required.
Mills with outputs of 1.95t/hr, 2.2t/hr and 3.4t/hr are available, with prices starting at £3,789.
