Vicon’s weigh cell-equipped fertiliser spreader, the RO-EDW, has been awarded a prestigious Silver Medal by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE).
Silver Medals are awarded to machinery that, in the RASE judges opinion, offers features that provide outstanding advantages for the end user. And on this score, the RO-EDW doesn’t disappoint.
The RO-EDW, with on-the-move dynamic calibration from its on-board weigh cells, is considered to be one of the easiest machines to use on the market. Its sophistication allows the spreader to continuously monitor the fertiliser weight in the hopper, check flow characteristics and forward speed, and then automatically re-calibrate itself as necessary every 30 seconds.
After visiting users, the judges found most operators stated that the machine would pay for itself quickly with the savings achieved from the high level of accuracy found in fertiliser application.
Excellent coverage on hillsides with changing topography was also found to be a significant feature of the machine, and this is a result of the EDW’s Rotaflow spreading cup system.
Favoured for its accuracy and ability to deliver fertiliser to the spinning discs at exactly the same point, regardless of whether the machine is working on a slope or on flat ground, the Rotaflow spreading cup system creates an even and accurate spread pattern throughout the entire working width, and across slopes.
Four weigh cells each rated to five tonnes support the EDW’s hopper and these, combined with a reference sensor, monitor the machine angle and working conditions. This ensures that when spreading on slopes or travelling over rough, bumpy ground, the application rate is not affected.
Auto calibration is also a key feature that contributes to saving time and improving machine accuracy. The ability to just hitch up and go also provided users with increased confidence of the RO-EDW’s ability to maintain an accurate and uniform spread pattern
throughout the day.
The Focus II control box, in addition to being logical with a large clear display, also provides electric main on/off, individual disc on/off for half width spreading and application rate adjustment for individual discs.
Spreading widths extend from 12-45m, and a maximum hopper capacity of 3,450 litres can be specified. Further versatility is available from downloading spreading charts for the RO-EDW spreader, directly to a web-enabled mobile phone.
